Although I wish I could support every new line coming out and buy them all, the only lines I will probably completely collect are -

    Retro Action
    Venture Bros
    Universal Monsters

I do want Flash Gordon, Ming, Buck Rogers, Hawk, and Tigerman though. Maybe a few from other lines too.

IMO, no such thing as too many.

Too many at once means that less get sold because of the limited finances of the people buying them. They will get discounted to be sold and then new ones won't be produced due to low sales. I've seen it happen over and over and over... Now there is a glut and then it vanishes as quickly as it appeared. I'm also thinking that the price of vintage Mego figures is going to decrease drastically and those selling vintage stuff for extra income will not be selling for as much, and maybe loose money invested to try to finance the new figures coming out. I also see a drastic decline in customs sold in the future. With all the cash going to the figures being released at retail, customs become harder to afford.

Yeah, but beyond a few selected Mego fanatics that need every Mego like figure there is, who would be purchasing them all anyway? I mean I think it would be hard to find very many people that are into ALL the different properties. I only buy lines and characters that I really like. I am not going to buy figures from properties I don't like, or think are crappy, Mego like or not.

Well, if you like DC, Star Trek, Twilight Zone, Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, Captain Action, Dark Shadows, then you have a lot of figures to buy. That's a lot of money there! It adds up quick.

Well, look at it this way, you don't need to buy all of them right when they come out. I am sure a lot of them aren't going to go through the roof on the secondary market. Most of the time you can score them cheaper.

While I agree that its too much too close together. However the DC wave 3 and 4 look like 2011 figs , EE has the preoder for wave 3 up and its showing an estimated Jan 2011 release date. Same with Retro GB per mattels tag for them at SDCC. Although probably more annoucements coming. I also agree that not everyone is buying all the lines from Mattel, Emce, Castaway, Bif Bang Pow, Zica etc. I am not interested in The Venture, Twilight Zone, Lost figs , eveything else... Retro Ghostbusters, Retro DC, Dark Shadows, Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, Star Trek and so on I am. I may stop my Completist plans and become more selective of characters. I can't see these lowering thev cost of the originals because nothing announced is exact replicas of orginal releases. Besides the reissues treks / Apes by Emce did not lower the values of the originals , nor did CTVT's poor reissues. Original Mego is Mego and hencethe value will always be there.

Yeah, that is another good point. A lot of what has been shown won't even be available until 2011.

                  Lines I have to have...
                  Twilight Zone (all)
                  Dark Shadows (all or most)

Lines I am interested in, but will probably only buy select figures from...
Universal Monsters (I am a huge UM fan, but the Wolfman is the only one I am real impressed with so far)
                  Lost
                  Buck Rogers
                  Brick Mantooth

                  Lines/figures I won't be buying...
                  Scott Ian
That tattoo guy from that new movie
DC (Big fan of DC heroes, but don't like the Mattel figures)
                  Venture Brothers
The Big Lebowski (great movie, no desire for a figure)
                  Flash Gordon
Star Trek (love TOS, but don't really need more figures)
                  Ghostbusters
Captain Action (A fan, but have the first two figures, and that is enough)

So yeah, I have it pretty easy. If I were a completest and/or more into the other properties, I would definitely be a little concerned, especially since there are other non-Mego like figures I will be seriously after this year as well.

Ha! Funny you mention that, because that is exactly what I did when I heard about the new 'Mego's'

I like having plenty of options. Some time ago we did not have the amount of options that we will have in the near future.

As someone else mentioned earlier it is not like they are all coming out tomorrow and you can only get them then. Most of the lines are in waves for a reason. The best part of all if this is you do not have to buy them all at one time if you cannot afford to do so. There will be plenty for everyone.

The verdict is still out on the vintage Mego's holding their value or not. I guess only time will really tell if they will or not. I like most vintage collector fans here naturally would like to see them hold their value if not go up some more. No one wants to lose money on their collection/investments.

I would imagine that it really boils down to the folding green in people's wallets. If you have plenty to spare and you like vintage Mego's one will buy them without hesitation.

IF of course one does not have a lot of jack or is on some kind of a toy budget those peeps will more than likely go a more affordable route by buying the retro figures. Just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions.

Of course in the end we all know that you get what you pay for.
Enjoy what you like, and let others enjoy what they like. (C) Azrak 2009

The fact that it's now a complaint that there is too much Mego like product makes no sense to me.

I've scanned every toy fair for the last 15 years looking for something, anything that looked like a Mego and came up disappointed almost every year.

If you think there too many Mego figures, pick up a Toyfare magazine, every month there are multitudes of Star Wars, Anime and other types of product out there. I don't know how other people do it, we're still small fish.

The licenses this year are diverse and amazing, many of them will appeal to people who have no clue what a Mego is. Only guys like us are intimidated by the volume.

If I go into a store and there is a wall of 8" figures, I fail to see how that's bad.

I think prices have a real chance to drop if you start seeing pegs lined with these figures in Walmarts and Targets. I can't believe this kind of presence at SDCC is somehow getting overlooked by their reps. I fully expect to see these figures, including WGSH, in all stores that sell toys by some time next year. That's my hope anyway.
