      ScottA,

How funny! I bought the same Fantastic 4 set at the same Lionel Playworld on Buford Highway (it's now an international grocery) in Atlanta!

      Did you live here?

First time I saw Megos was when my parents' friends came to visit, and their son had a Superman and Batman. I couldn't believe it, I was a superhero nut and went crazy when I saw those (I was about 5 years old at the time). Of course, after that I bugged my mom for a Batman, and about a week later I had my very own RC Batman (in a window box). The next day his right hand broke off at the wrist, and I then had to bug my mother to take him back to the store. My five year old mind thought that all the Batmans would have that same problem, so I got a few of those rubber Ben Cooper superheroes instead. My first Mego that I actually owned for more than a couple days was a Superman that I got the following Easter. Luckily his hands stayed on.

As an addendum, the last Mego I bought at retail was a carded Hulk I found at Child's World in 1989 or 1990. He had a broken knee of course, but only cost $1.99. (there were two for sale, my friend who was with me picked up the other one). I miss the days of going to a toy store and actually finding nearly 10 year old dead stock sitting on the shelves.

No. I live in AL and it was a road trip. I was talking to a classmate in college and we started talking Megos for whatever reason. He said he had seen some in ATL but I didn't believe him. This was around late 1988 or early 1989. So we took a road trip that weekend and sure enough there they were. All 4 FF's and Spidey in all their carded glory. I wasn't really into collecting yet so I only bought the one set of FF's. It's funny, I had never had the FF's when I was a kid and had never seen them in person until that moment. I can vividly remember the feeling I had when I saw them hanging there. It definately helped spark the fire. When I finally did go back they were all gone. I always wondered what happened to it after it closed. My brother lives in ATL but not on that side of town.

I don't remember "getting" the first one. I do remember only having two early on, Batman and Superman. Eventually I got more hero's and I went nuts over the Apes line.

As an adult collector, the first I "re-got" was Cornelius.

My first Mego was Action Jackson. For Christmas in 1973 or so I got an AJ, the helicopter, the parachute, the scramble cycle, and the snowmobile. As I recall, the vehicles lived longer than poor ol' AJ did

Same here! My brother's Robin broke very quickly and he was replaced with a painted mask Robin. He went threw 3 or 4 of them. My RC Bats was eventually replaced with a painted mask Bats but for some reason I kept the removable cowl for a little while longer than I did the figure that went with it.

I bought them out around that time. They are packed away somewhere. I believe they were packaged for the Spanish speaking market.

                      That depends:

My very first bought for me Megos were window boxed painted faced Batman and Robin figures bought together when I was 5 years old. My mom took a 4 day trip with her bowling league that summer, and because of the weird hours my Dad worked, neither he nor my siblings could watch me, so I spent the week at an adopted aunt's house. She bought me the figures as a consolation gift.

But my very first to play with Megos were a brunet clean-shaven AJ in the dark blue jumpsuit and a Spidey that belonged, at least at first, to my older brother. I remember taking them to pre-kindergarten, so that dates me at age 4.

I never technically stopped buying Megos--picking them up loose in the wild at flea markets, etc--but the last store bought one I got was also the Human Torch from a Lionel's Toyworld going out of business sale in Tucson in '88.

I really don't remember my first Mego. I just remember always having had them. However, it had to have been either Batman, Superman or Robin.

This is a great question. wish I'd asked it.
My first mego was an Action Jackson along with the Snowmobile on Christmas morning. PS it didnt snow on Christmas and I was disapointed.

My official first mego was a Penguin Comic Action Hero. I still have him... in pieces. His legs fell out, and his tux cracked in half... but the pieces are still there. I got him around 1980, when I was 4.

My first TRUE mego, an 8inch mego was a Spidey I found left at a bank when I was 5. Some poor kid must have been there with his mom, like me, and dropped it. I found it and my mom stuck it in her purse for me. My mom rocked.

Now, the first 8 inch that was purchased for me was a Batgirl at Alexander's. I wanted a set of 12inch Magnetic Batman & Robin (seeing as though Batman was on syndication after cartoons on channel 5 at the time) and my mom convinced me that I would rather have the ONE on clearance Batgirl than the more expensive TWO figures. Ok, maybe my mom didn't rock that much.

I'll tell you this though, Batgirl and Spidey had quite a few adventures in Barbie's camper.

The first Mego that entered my home was a Spidey that my husband found at the flea market for $1. He had them as a kid and liked Spidey in Twisted Toyfare Theater. The next one that I bought was a naked Robin, followed by Wonder Woman.
