I actually have only the one gripe about the body and that is the bowed legs. I think the elastics will deteriorate within 10 years like the PM Action Jackson's do though.

I have some legitimate gripes like the bow and those oversized oven mitt-esque gaunlets. The bow just looks WRONG. The arrow is placed incorrectly. Upsidedown or not, it's in the wrong place. Let's be completely honest here, the Green Arrow figure is an internet exclusive aimed SOLELY at collectors. They will NOT be available at TRU unless I'm missing something. No reason to have the arrow pass safety standards. Also, these MUST be internal safety standards. I defy you to fire a projectile more than a few inches with a CTVT bow. Where are they safety standards for these? What about Hasbro's firing projectiles on their GI JOe and Transformers toys?

While Mattel may say the overall line may not be aimed at collectors, that is going to make up the vast majority of buyers. If Mattel thinks these will fly off the shelves because kids want them, they are sadly mistaken or lying. These are geared for collectors and nostalgic 30 and 40 somethings . Why go through the trouble of making them look like Megos otherwise? Did the FCs or DC 9s fly off the shelves because kids wanted them? Nope.

Mattel are shooting themselves in the foot. If they TRULY want to get these in kids' hands, why... WHY are they only going to be available at TRU???? WalMart is the highest selling department store in North America. Within a few miles of my house, I can find 4 or 5 WalMarts. We have ONE TRU in all of Nova Scotia I believe!

To say these are geared towards kids is utter foolishness or BS IMO.

All that said, I'm HOPING they sell like hot cakes and every kid I see has at least one. I hope I can get bunches of them. The gripes I have mentioned will not stop me from buying them. I want BATMAN!!!!!! MY kids want them but given the choice between a Brave and the Bold figure or one of these, I can say with a high degree of confidence, they'd choose the B and B figure. This with being exposed to them their whole lives.

Bah, I wish Mattel just went ahead and used Sunshine Family bodies on these, just so I could see folks here absolutely lose it. I am a bit disappointed though....because I though this thread would be about Mattel bringing back Big Jim.

I'm happy that we are getting product that we like
for years i said it not going to happen, then whoop there it is.
my concern that it winds up G.I.Joe extreme, or the G.I.joe 40th Ann. sets which were a Flops.
which i don't want to happen, I want different lines, vehicles & acceriores set, i want the line to be Hit!!

I giggle like a school girl

As EMCE completes the last two figures in wave 3, we are JUST AS
EXCITED about these figures as we were a year ago working on the
            first ones.

And knowing what I know about next year, I giggle like a demented
            schoolgirl.

The figure is still part of a mass market toy line and as such falls under the same child safety laws. But even if the line was strictly for collectors, from what I understand, Mattel has a VERY strict internal guideline on toy safety and would still make the toy just as child safe. A big mass market toy company, like Mattel, is not comparable to small collector companys like Neca or Sideshow.

Bottom line: Legally, Green Arrow (exclusive or not) is a toy and the bow MUST pass toy safety laws.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I don't know about you Guys and Gals but I was a BIG Big Jim fan and collector as a kid. This clearly gives me hope that at some point in the next decade I may finally see Big Jim make a return.

Being that. It is Mattel and not Mego I was not looking for something Retro. I was hoping for something new and updated.....and that's what it looks like. I will support these when they hit the stores.

                  I like Mego.

                  I like Big Jim

                  I like cloth-oufitted figures in 1/9 scale

                  I like DC

I can't really see a downside to any of this.

Mattel business malfunctions and decisions aside, we've got 8-inch superheroes coming to toy shelves. Prior to July, that simply wasn't possible. Of course it's not Mego. It is, however, in the spirit of Mego, and Megoheads here responsible for this hybrid figure's existence.

Think of this like a car. Sure you might miss some features of a previous year and model, but you could always grow to love the new one. Give it a chance before condemnation.

Remember, not one of us, not even Paul has the final product in their hands. All of the complaints, all of the *****ing, all of nitpicking and cerrtainly all of the whining is based on nothing more than speculation.

Myself, I'm in till the end. I'll buy each of these blindly because I know it's pretty close to something I've always wanted and because I know the roots of Mego passion that stoked the flames began here at the Museum.

Well I won't buy anything blindly, lol, because that sends the wrong message in my view.

That said, this post was to serve more as a question and informative than anything else. I think they used Big Jim in their reimagining of Mego. Doc says that new legs are coming, which I think will be an improvement.

But I'm certainly not bashing the product. I think it's missing some of the key elements that it needed, but I'm definitely excited to try it out. That's all anyone can do, try them, see if they like them.

I think people are quick to jump on one side or the other, hate it, love it, but I'm more still in the exploratory phase. I'm intrigued by some of the design choices and I think some of the ideas are pretty neat and some I think could have been handled better. That's sort of how it has to go.

I don't want Doc Mego or anyone thinking I'm slamming the hard work that they've put in on this project, because that certainly wouldn't be accurate.

I'd also be all over a revamp of the Big Jim line. That has serious potential.

Blindly is a strong word I should have not used. I'll likely be standing in front of the pegs buying them, so eyesight will be involved. Until I'm given reason not to, I'll buy at least one of each figure.

Time will tell if this excitement lasts. I remember driving all over Cincinnati looking for Famous Covers figures to complete my collection. After a few years I realized I really didn't like them anymore.

That would rock and I'd love a new line of Major Matt Mason toys too. Maybe Mattel has more plans for their new "Retro Action" brand? Who knows? Would be wicked cool though.

                              From day one, these were being touted as "new Megos" and let's face it, they really aren't. {BINGO!!}
It also didn't help matters that the pictures on the MM home page were posted as such, before anyone had seen the finished product.

Like it or not, the packaging, the non-removable heads, the accessories, the bodies, the online exclusive that got pushed back a week, were a disappointment to some.

In the past though, many on this board have commented on "wanna-be Megos".
                              Most of it bad.

It's easy to forget that FC's, DC9's, CTVT's, etc. were all designed by SOMEONE.

To imply that because some MM members were involved in this project, or that Mattel might read something bad about these, and that makes them beyond reproach, is ridiculous.

No one should be made to feel that they can't have an opinion on this forum, good or bad. After all, these are being billed as "new Megos", and this is the MEGO museum.

BUT..if they don't like how they look, you can't get mad about it. When everybody was mooning over these(the idea, at least), it was all fine and dandy. Now that everyone has seen them, the complaints are unfair?

I'm sorry, you can't have it both ways.

Mattel isn't cutting me any checks. I don't have to buy these or even like them. I'll be the one to decide whether or not they're worth my coin.
Shhhh. someone might *****-slap you for your unpopular opinion.

You are supposed to pony up your money and shut up. You should be grateful.
Don't you know there are people who parted the Red Sea, raised the dead and sold their first-born so you people can have these figures!

Not a single person here has a finished product, yet people still whine like babies. Thanks for taking a big fat dump on the enthusiasm of others. I prefer the thill of exciting announcements now because I know the naysayers and negative nellies will eventually try to suck the joy out of the most exciting Mego news since they went under.
