DC Retro Action = Big Jim

It took a little help from my friends, but I finally figured out why the "new" DC Retro Action Heroes looked familiar to me. These "new" figures use old parts, or at least retools of old parts. It seems as if Mattel is following the same formula that helped launch Masters of the Universe 20 years ago, use old Big Jim parts to make new toys. But it's baffling that they'd try to pull this in this day and age. Is Mattel really using Big Jim as the basis for their new Mattelgo line? You be the judge.

So that's why they changed the neck plug? Because they based themselves on Big Jim for the body? Ugh

I look at this as "good" news. If Mattel uses the "Retro Action" line to bring back Big Jim's PACK, then all the better!! I love Big Jim!!

Wait... Big Jim was 8" tall? I thought he was 9" tall... but then I haven't seen one in over 30 years. But, boy, I had alot of Jim's stuff...

Big Jim was indeed 9". But, yes, the bodies do look eerily similar.

The doll is definitely a hybrid of the Big Jim and Mego body, somewhere I saw evidence of this. It is by no means a recycling of the body parts.

I doubt they even have the original Big Jim body parts anymore.

Actually, I bet ya Mattel has Matt Mason tooling somewhere, they are great recyclers but based on what I've seen, they've created a new item.

As long it has similar articulation as a Mego body, I'll be fine with it. The legs and pelvis look very Big Jim, but the rest looks like updated Mego to me.

Does anyone know if the head can be popped on and off like an old Mego?

I may be alone here but I like this.

I've always secretly wished WGSH's were part of the Big Jim line.

The only complaint I have about Jims is the fragile necks ... Once the head breaks off you can throw the figure in the garbage.

Also, the upper thigh to hip ratio looks way off on these new figures.

The new figures are not the same as Big Jim - but some of the design elements
are proprietary to Mattel. Just like MEGO had a company style, so does Mattel.
This style runs through most of their figures.

We never said it was the same as the MEGO body. It is in scale with MEGO,
unlike some other attempts at this format.

The torsos are well glued so you will not be able to pop out the heads to go
on vintage bodies - but there won't be any issue with arms being pulled into
                              the torso.
