You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return... -
I was really excited when these were first announced but when the criticism started trickling in and those people (myself included)with negative opinions started getting attacked unjustly, I ramped it up. Basically I felt the need to voice my opinion even more at that point but you know what?
I don't care.
I'm done *****ing. Take your pound of flesh out of the others who are also disappointed and vocal.
I probably won't buy these and am tired of reading these threads about them.
I have plenty of REAL Megos yet to buy for my collection and that's where the bulk of my money will go.
History will tell whether I am right or these will be a super-success. How soon we forget all the hoopla and hype and praise of past failures.

aw well, at least we dont all see eye to eye the world would be one peacefull place with no war
dang that would be good thing wouldnt it lol
but then there would be no need for super heroes haha
well we are not all the same that would be boring, we all have opinions, lets hope they take the positive and negative criticism as just all productive criticism, they may make amends and listen to what the consumer wants within there saftey obligations of course
im thinking its a shame the figure got put back a while, and that started the frustration among collectors but it also show how passionate we all are for a action figure/doll
imagine how stoked folks would be now if the line had not been put back, the threads would have all read about how much they are looking forward to recieving the retro action figure... i understand they may not have had control over that, but that goes back to the passion... its like taking candy from a baby your gonna have a screaming session on your hands
im a toy lover and im looking forward to what other characters are coming out in the waves, lets just hope they dont make the same hype mistake if they have delivery problems, i never even heard of some of the characters coming out anyways so i wont be able to criticise them as i wont be buying them, im longing for batman superman and so on
i think give it another week of moaning and the excitement will start again haha
i just had a thought, perhaps the ghosts of mego past, christmas present and retro actions future will visit mattel and they will come goodLast edited by toystalker; Dec 16, '09, 4:34 AM.Comment

Uh-oh. Better not voice criticism too loudly or you'll be ostracized for your opinions. Just jump off the cliff with the rest.
Shhhh. someone might *****-slap you for your unpopular opinion.
You are supposed to pony up your money and shut up. You should be grateful.
Don't you know there are people who parted the Red Sea, raised the dead and sold their first-born so you people can have these figures!

That's a defeatist attitude.
"We should be grateful we even got these and spend our money profusely."
I disagree.
We should voice our complaints and tell them they missed the boat and they should take a long, hard look at emce's line if they want to know what we REALLY expect.
I think the success of the Trek line shows that if done right, the money is there. Even CTVT were more true to Mego than this Mattel thing. If they had a better quality control they would probably still be putting out new lines today. They burned their reputation with their early stuff.
The only thing that's missing from emce's line is the Mego name and being available in department stores everywhere.

As much as I love and collect EMCE Trek, I don't see Trek sold at TRU nor do I see any success from CTVT who you say are "more true". Fact is Mattel doesn't want repro figures, they want something new that pays tribute to mego, not photocopies it.
I've watched over the years how Paul has worked his a** of to make this happen and it actually ticks me off a little when I read one petty shot after another.
Paul and Mattel have done an incredible job bringing back superheroes and I predict they will sell better than CTVT and Trek put together.Check out my website: Megozine Covers - HomeComment

I don't think anyone with a gripe isn't thankful for these figures. Disappointed, yes.
I also have not read a SINGLE petty shot at Doc. Not one. Everyone is grateful for his dedication and work but nobody owes him anything, nor does anyone owe Mattel thier thanks for putting out a toy that they're not happy with.
GA could have been done better. He is in the spirit of Mego no doubt but so were FCs and the DC9s. The major difference here so far, is the scale is correct.
Time will tell how the other figures measure up.
You're confusing "defeatist" attitude with "thankful", something that seems to be lacking. And I'm not about the throw money at this. I didn't throw money at Famous Covers because in my opinion, they sucked. These are awesome!

I think the biggest disappointment lies in the fact that these aren't new Megos, like everyone was expecting, but something completely different that merely looks like Megos.
CTVT, EMCE, Castaway and pretty soon ZICA have all released what I would call new Megos: same (or pretty similar) body with the same neck plug where everything could be swapped, just like the original Megos. But with these Mattels that won't be possible and I think that's what people are having a hard time to swallow. I know I am.
I didn't like the card when I first saw it, but it isn't as bad when I saw the final product. I still think Anthony designed a better card, but I can forgive Mattel for theirs. I don't mind the legs all that much, especially since they'll correct it in future waves. But I can't get past that new neck plug. Because of that these aren't new Megos to me.
But that doesn't mean I won't get any. I'll probably won't buy them all, but I'll get a few. If you look at these as something new in stead of new Megos I think most of us "whining babies" will stop complaining. Gotta turn that switch inside your head and you'll be OK, it's what I did. I would've bought more if they were more like what EMCE had done and I have no doubt the entire line would've been a bigger succes, but because of that new body/new neck plug sales will be lower IMO."...The agony of my soul found vent in one loud, long and final scream of despair..." - Edgar Allan PoeComment

That would rock and I'd love a new line of Major Matt Mason toys too. Maybe Mattel has more plans for their new "Retro Action" brand? Who knows? Would be wicked cool though.
With the new figures, my goal with the Mattel line is to have a complete figure that's fresh out of a box that my kids can play with and I don't have to worry if it get's trashed. So my goal is met. For those who love to customize, I can understand the sadness of the head being locked in place, etc. And I criticize no one for feeling disappointed, either. But I am excited to see them out.
This is like the new v old Star Trek debates. Some like it, some don't. Let's just leave it at that. For example, I love the oven-mitt gloves on Megos. I'm in the minority, but I still "talk" to all of you. It's all good!Comment

I'm looking forward to these figures. I'll probably only buy 1 GA, and that will be for me. As for the figures that hit TRU? Well, I'll probably buy 2. One for me and one for my boys. They always want to play with my Megos, and my other vintage toys, but I won't let them. They will go nuts when I get these and let them play with them. Do you think they will give a flip about the neck plug? If they do, then I will have other issues to deal with.Comment

As I stated before, Mattel needs to look at what Hasbro has done with GI Joe/ActionMan and Kenner with Star Wars. Mattel already has done this with He-Man. Now they need to go with Big Jim.
Also throw in a cartoon based on the P.A.C.K.Hey, I can dream, can't I?

People just didn't say they hate it and move on. No problem on that. To each their own. The problem was the same few posted over and over and over that they hated in every related thread. That's not disagreeing or disliking, that's just rude and obsessive. It's also getting bizzare when you have one of us here posting nonsense that Mattel is evil over this. Posts like that are embarassing to the community, the hobby and reflect poorly on all of us.
All of this over a toy, good grief. Love it or hate it, buy it or don't, life goes on.You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing.
