Great point! I like the card art, but honestly they could pack them in a brown paper bag and I would still buy them.

I actually think the card art is groovy and the 80s style guide art of the heroes makes perfect sense.

If Mego hadn't stopped making WGSH and had continued into the 80s I could imagine the card art looking just like that. In the 60s and 70s the license toy art was all over the place. But, from what I understand, by the 80s licensors, like DC, had official style guides and enforced much stricter controls of the images and use of their characters.

The back of the card is just like MEGO, with full figure shots of the characters.

I almost spit out my coffee when I saw that Batman was pictured in the ad.

I think the weathered look is to make it stand out in the toy aisle. Trust me,
the guys at Mattel spend a lot of time on the ground listening to people,
and they understand what the point of this line is. And they have to balance
the licensor's wants and needs against the fan's desires and their own preferences.

By the way, I just got brown female bodies in from China and added a bunch of
items to the SPECIALS section on Dr. Mego's Repros

So the picture of the green arrow figure won't actually be on the card, the actual figure will be there in the bubble with just a yellow background and his name on top?


I don't completely hate the weathered look, but I do think its a fad, alot of different companies have been doing it lately. Unfortunately I think its a fad that won't be appreciated a few years down the line when these become a collectibles in their own right. Sort of like wood paneling on cars.

I did mention the Garcia Lopez style guide a while back. I'm all for that myself. If I get a Lopez styled Batman, I will be a happy camper. I love me some Neal Adams but I think I prefer Lopez's version to be honest. Even though it's very similar. And yeah we're picking on the cards because its a bit of a letdown to have new Mego WGSH but like everything else, part of what makes them so enduring is being altered. I don't much care one way or the other to be honest. I'm going to open at least one Batman to play with.
