Very cool ad. Are we even sure that that is the final artwork for the card?

This is what the cards will look like - Joe loves the weathered look,
I don't - I have never liked distressed anything. It really isn't that
noticeable. Personally I love the thought of freaking out the OCD
collectors.
DC has a style guide of approved art - they have to know who did
the pencils and inks so that the artists can be paid for useage.
I showed them the artwork from Mego boxes and most of it was not
resolved, even though it was stock art from the 70s.Comment

Thats the back of the card we see here then Paul?
I'm not a fan of the "distressed" look either, but it's only a minor issue. Same with the 80's era art....not a big deal. Its the toy that matters, and thats going to be phenomenal!! (and it looks like Bats will be in his blue and grey's as he should be too!!)"Crayons taste like purple!"Comment

I like the Super Powers style art myself, but the card style is of no consequence to me. Both my son and I will be ripping them open anyways. My son is going to be four next summer and although the age on these are 6+ he will still have them and play with them, and I know he will love them as much as I do if not more. I hope this line continues for years so that my son can claim the "Mego" childhood that I mostly missed due to my Star Wars fanaticism. I can't say enough good things about Paul Clarke. He has really changed the world for me when it comes to my love of all things "Mego".
I like to imagine that by the year 2020, Paul Clarke will be Ultimate Emperor of the World with an awesome and indestructible Mego-like robot body, always kept nicely polished, and will own all licenses to everything. Just imagine what Megos we will have then! And he will own the name Mego and may even choose to be called Emperor Mego! There will be Mego ice cream! Mego toilet paper! Mego water! Mego pizza! My god, it will be beautiful! Make it happen, Paul "Emperor Mego" Clarke!
Edit: I thought of an idea that would be cool when Aquaman gets made. Make his torso and upper arms orange, forearms and hands green, black pelvis with a yellow stripe at the waist, green legs and feet, and then when my son...okay I'll be truthful...when I take Aquaman into the bathtub, I can strip off his outfit and he'll still look dressed and can swim without his clothes getting messed up. The painted areas could have painted details to to preserve the look of the outfit.
Oh, and make a webbed hand variant too.

Glad to see I'm not the only one planning to rip these suckers off the card to play with.
Mint on Card? Whatever....mego's are meant to be played with.Check out my website: Megozine Covers - HomeComment

The ad is exciting, the figure looks cool, and it'll be fun to rip it off a non-mint card!sigpic "It's like you're unravelling a big cable-knit sweater that someone keeps knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting..."Comment

You almost HAVE to open these figures! It's pretty safe to assume that's the whole point of all of everyone's hard work on this project - open 'em up and play with 'em! The looks on the headsculpts alone defy you NOT to want to open these suckers up."It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."Comment

But seriously, with Mego packaging, much of the art was adapted and partially redrawn. The head shots on the 1979 cards for instance. I can give you a source for every head, but both Superman and Batman had their shoulders redrawn, and maybe others too.
The rigid style guide laws strike again. Oh well. It's still a nice card, and I'll be opening at least one figure anyway. I plan on buying at least two of each for myself!

I can understand the card art. Mattel HAS to communicate to the non-mego public that these are retro and old school. The weathered look is a more creative way that type that says "these are based on a vintage line of action figures".
I think we're getting so distracted about the card art that we're missing the big point here. NEW "MEGOs".Comment

I just think the Wheathered Card with the Beat-up Corner takes away from the Figure...., I look at the Packaging that Mattel Came up with for the DCU Figures, as well as the 12inch Ghostbusters line..., & those packaging Designs are Awesome.. I just think they Dropped the Ball with the Burnt look on the Card with these...., It's like buying ripped Jeans,... With those Features on the Card, they are stating (with or without knowing) That Mego's are Old, beat-up Wheathered Items ..., which could work for them with the consumer outside of Mego, or Against them... I like the art chosen just fine, no Problem there for me, I like those images.Last edited by BlackKnight; Oct 18, '09, 11:51 AM.... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated.
