Great news for Marty, and for everyone who enjoys buying modern toys,
but ultimately meaningless to me.
For me, it's only a Mego if it was a toy I had as a kid.
The memory connection is what I relate to, rather than style of construction.
There are numerous 8" style figures, including the EMCE & CTTV clones,
but I contend those are all targeted at mostly adult collectors, rather than kids. That makes then Toy Collectibles rather than Collectible Toys.
That said, I love watching the excitement build as EMCE releases new waves of toys - in fact, one of my co-workers just asked me where to find them -
and their success is a wonderful testament to the foundations laid by Mego.
Well, it WOULD be meaningless to me ---but only IF I knew for sure
it wouldn't help getting more Mego veined 8 inch figures out there---
if it DOES do that, then great---if it doesn't---well, I'm in the same
boat as Rob. ^^^
I'm thinking something positive in the "Mego 8-inch figure" vein WILL
come out of this though----just staying positive---and then, yeah---I'd
be real glad Marty went thru the "hoops".
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix
Personally, I would be very happy if EMCE just continues the way it is doing now.
I don't need the MEGO name, really. I love my orginal MEGOs, and my new EMCEs.
I hope that this new development, Marty buying back the name, doesn't change ANYTHING.
I like things the way they are now....

I agree with the way Rob put it, except I have bought some modern stuff(Emce,FC's, etc.) just for fun. I don't consider them collectibles like my vintage, which is still my main focus, but I can mess with them more without worrying about damaging a rarity. Also, if it leads to line extensions that were never produced, that's cool too!
That's really awesome. We will have see what Marty is planning to do with it. I would love to see him partner more with Emce and consider the reissues and new figures as mego's. Maybe assist with Paul getting more licensed product.
Whatever happens or whatever Marty decides to do I am really glad He owns the name. It's back where it belongs and it adds further to the legacy of Mego.
In The " Real World " Vampires Do Not Sparkle. They Burn In the Sun !
One of the most interesting comments Marty made, imo, came when asked what figure the panelists would like to see given the mego 8" treatment. Dave said Star Wars, Doc said WGSH, but Marty said, Baron Karza.
Well, I'd see Marty wrangling a way to offer a "Mego" Karza figure just to make proof-in-trade in his endless battle with Takara over who owns the trademark.
Now the big question (from a graphic artist): Does Marty have the same Mego Corp. logo in mind or a new design? lol
And will he start demanding royalties and licensing fees from everyone who uses the Mego name on products - like Ben's book, or the Museum's own trading cards.....?

Not sure about how that works.
I can't imagine collector's books having to pay royalties to their subject matter's companies.
If that were the case, the companies would have total control of everything that in print about them...

Unfortunately it does work that way Mike. The tough reality is that everything to do with the MEGO name now has to have Marty's approval. I am sure he'll be cool with the MUSEUM stuff... I mean Brian is one of the central reasons it's around for him to resurrect!
Anything to do with toys and things produced bearing the name, however, is a bit dicier... "Naked Licensing" is the concept of not having license agreements with anyone producing anything with your name associated with it, and a TM holder can have their TM canceled if they don't have agreements with anyone making stuff under their name. I would think some of the things with the MEGO name on them might come to an end...
I'm sure the guys have kissed enough butt over the years to not let that happen.
It would be foolish to produce more figures again. It' s a different time and age. MEGO was the thing back in the day and now it would just be another rehash of " the old days" Even as an " adult collector item" , it would only reach maybe a few thousand , if that, that really collect MEGO.
I don't agree with this statment at all. I have been giving out EMCE's as gifts to my son and nephews and some of there friends and they love them and play with them all the time. They also ask me what else is out there and I have had parents ask me where to get them from. So I think that if they were made easier to find they would sell very well and as you mentioned there would also be the collectors going after them. Sometimes I think that people that have the original Mego's are afraid that reintroducing the Mego line will somehow devalue there collection instead of thinking about how much a new generation would enjoy playing with the same type of toys that made alot of us happy.
