Marty Owns Mego Again

Big news from Marty Abrams during the panel at New York Comicon- He once again owns the Mego name and can release toys under it. Apparently, the name was bundled in a package of intellectual properties and had been just sitting for years. He bought the whole thing and its back where it belongs. According to Marty, no worries about Lego, either.

I don't think this means he'll be releasing any clothed, 8-inch figures any time soon, but he can release toys under the name again. That said, I think, he generally sells toy ideas to other manufacturers now.

Dang... I wanted to buy me some WGSH's... That's what I was hoping the announcment would be... oh welll.

I guess this is good news? I don't really understand why Marty would want it back after all these years, though I am glad LEGO isn't keeping the MEGO name under it's thumb anymore...

I can understand why he would want it back. It's his legacy. Besides, the name is still well known. So if he does have a brainstorm, what better place to put it than under the name "MEGO"! Besides that, I'm sure Paul Clark and all of us in different levels have contributed to his desire. Remember when he said he couldn't believe that those old figures had such a following. Well, I'd want to be part of that too, if it were mine.

After seeing the mess thats happened to many of the great old toy company names like Ideal, Gilbert, and Marx, its good to see one grand old name back where it belongs. Hope he does something with it besides licensing it to someone else (unless that someone is EMCE).
