There's really no point in argueing with you, but where do you get that? Star Wars may have had a bigger influence on you, but on culture? There were 6 movies, of which the last 3 hardly made the same impact as the first 3.
Star Trek has has half a dozen TV series and a dozen movies. And that's not counting the fan based series and movies. Sorry Hue, but Star Trek is bigger than Star Wars.

Star Trek...cause Mego made the toys.
And not making Star Wars toys put them out of Business.

Okay then---STAR WARS has more of it.

One STAR WARS movie makes more than all 10 TREK movies combined----or
        just about any way.

Quality over quantity, my man. Complain about JAR Jar etc. all you want...
TREK STILL gets buried by WARS at the box office.

Also---"pop culture references"? Gimmee a break. TREK wishes it had the
pop culture references (aka impact) shot for shot that STAR WARS has.... Lets
see ROBOT CHICKEN or FAMILY GUY even TRY to do satirical/parody
episodes on TREK and have them measure up to what they did with WARS--
--they can't do it...because WARS has so much more to offer.
Robot Chicken has done so with Star Trek many times. Two Kirks a Kahn and a Pizza Place anyone? How about their first bloopers skit with Kirk getting his manhood caught in the doors? Or the skit where the red shirt gets his revenge. Then there's Futurama and The Simpsons. One has to wonder if Matt Groening is a closet Trek fan with all of the stuff they've thrown in. If not him,I'm guessing Al Jean is since he's also stuck some stuff into The Critic when he was working on that. And you don't think Family Guy isn't? What about the time Stewie was suppose to be Quark from Deep Space 9? Bottom line,as much as I like Star Wars I've got to give Star Trek the edge in the end.

I remember a world before Star Wars...but it had Star Trek! The Enterprise being a thing of beauty alone outweighs Star Wars...of course, that's my opinion.

How about a new thread of Lost in Space versus Battlestar Galactica

Star Wars. I never got into Star Trek, though I like most of the movies.

                        Star Trek.

I have no doubt that in 50 years, Trek will still be around in some form, while Star Wars will have dried up and blown away in the wind.

But yeah---even so------I 'd put Palaptine to win up against Kirk any day in a fight.

(and, also, I still think STAR WARS' characters are better)

Well, the title of the thread is SW vs. ST is it not? Palpatine couldn't handle Kirk. If he were leading the rebellion, it would have taken one movie to topple the empire, not three and some Ewoks. And Leia as a slave girl hottest thing around? How about Yvonne Craig as a green Orion Dancer?

I simply can not make that choice. Both had major impact on Sci-Fi, but regardless of that, they are both a big part of my childhood in different ways and I just can't pick one!

                              Thinking about this some more....

"Star Wars" hit at the right age for me (10) whereas a few years earlier I had always thought of "Star Trek" as an "older brother" kind of show...that is something I might watch in passing while it was on if someone else had control of the TV but it wasn't something I'd gravitate to myself naturally. But I was kinda intrigued at that point by stuff like the Mego Enterprise that was on display in K-Mart (loved spinning that transporter tube!) and AMT Trek models that were on display in our school library. When "Star Wars" came along it changed the way sci-fi properties were merchandised.
If Trek had as big a push during it's hey-day I probably would've grabbed onto to the show earlier than I did.

Also someone brought up a point that the "Star Wars" franchise did better at the box office as a whole than the "Star Trek" series did. Perhaps, but "Trek" was originally designed as a TELEVISION property and has done pretty decently at the MOVIES considering. What other TV series has made the transition from the small screen to the big screen so succesfully...answer: none. The reverse can't be said for "Star Wars"...outside of the 6 movies there hasn't been the cross-over success to the small screen.

                                OMG! I can't believe I haven't answered this thread. Here's my answer....ready?

                                TREK!!!!!!!

                                Does that answer your question?
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."
