Who hates MOONRAKER ?

Steeler80 asked why I didn't like Spy, and my answer is that it suffers from the same problems as Moonraker: It's designed to appeal to children and goes out of its way to be goofy, campy and cartoonish. Although Moore was also my first Bond, after discovering Connery's more serious and hard-edged approach I have a difficult time taking Moore seriously. He's the Adam West of James Bond's, and the movies that surround him are almost universally silly, with the exception of Your Eyes Only and parts of Octopussy. So there ya go. I want to take Bond seriously, and imagine him as being a real person, as opposed to the tongue-in-cheek comedian we get with Moore.

I will admit that my opinion is influenced by Barbara Bach in that black dress just as I was reaching an impressionable age.

That and I thought the Lotus submarine was awesome.

Ok, I just watched Moonraker al at once for the first time. It does suffer from that late 70's need to put a lot of comedy into the action (Superman movies have that problem as well).In fact, I almost turned it off after they showed Jaws stumble out of the cable car thing like Yosemite Sam.

Holly Goodhead can't act worth crap and Richard Kiel is the slowest killer ever. It seems like they made Moonraker to appeal to the kids, I could see myself really liking it at 9.

"Die Another Day" was just as silly to me.

I think you have a very valid point regarding the age factor. This did play a big role in it for me. I seen one of the other Bond films a while back (can't remember the name of it right now, that is how important it is to me) but I believe it was Pierce Bronson taking a motorcycle and jumping off of a mountain to catch an airplane going down and then he pulls the plane out of a complete stall.....and then.... I was like come on now. Now your insulting my intelligence.

Kill me, but my fav Bond was probably Roger Moore....

You are not alone. It looks as if you and I will be killed together. I like Roger Moore primarily because he was the first James Bond that I seen as a kid. Therefore, I had thought that he WAS James Bond. Little did I know at the time that they would switch James Bond casts like some people change underwear. To me Roger Moore just looks the part as being James Bond. I have all of the Bond movies some are better than others. I do know that I am not a big fan of Sean Connery. This much is true. How he ever became Bond I will never know. Must have aquired him at a pretty inexpensive contract price I would hope at least. For me changing Roger Moore to a different Bond would be like changing one of the orginal Star Trek members. It just isn't the same to me. That is why I never got into any of the other Star Trek shows after the original. Again, to each their own. If everyone agreed on everything this would be a pretty boring ace forum.

Not one of my favorite of the Bond films, but I did like it. I think another of its problems is that it came after "The Spy Who Loved Me" which I consider to be the best of the Moore Bond, so it might have been a bit of a letdown in that respect.

The movie "Moonraker" was written by Christopher Wood who also adapted it into novel form as "James Bond and Moonraker". He also wrote the movie "The Spy Who Loved Me", which had NOTHING to do with the Fleming novel, and his own novelization of the that film.

I believe Moonraker is based on a Fleming story, although none of it took place in space. Maybe once they start re-making Fleming works truer to the original source (a-la Casino Royale, though I know the upcoming Bond 22 is totally original), they'll make Moonraker as, you know, a good movie.

The original Moonraker book is very 1950's in it's construction, centering around V2 rockets and the like. Anyone who would adapt iot to screen would have to make a lot of changes to make it relevant. Not to say you'd go to the extremes of 1979 but as I recall, that book is very "jet age".
