Who hates MOONRAKER ?

I'm a longtime fan of the 007 films but not the books. The first movie that I ever saw in a theatre was "Live and Let Die", which was also my first 007 movie. I've watched all the 007 films over the years, even owned them a few times. Roger Moore was not James Bond. Like a previous poster recalled, Moore did claim to play Bond for laughs. I believe he said that when "For Your Eyes Only" was released. "Moonraker" like most all of the Moore films was horrible. Drax was a fine villain but we've seen his kind before. Jaws was formidible as a henchman but became a clown. Dr. Goodhead was the only decent thing about "Moonraker" but she had to deliver that horrible line at the end of the movie "Take me around the world again, James." Gah. The Moore movies were basically parodies of themselves and the entire 007 legacy.

And since everyone else is doing it, my Top 5 007 movies:
1. Goldfinger
2. Thunderball
3. Goldeneye
4. Live and Let Die
5. Dr. No

Roger Moore was pretty suave and debonair as Bond, but not my favorite. Too dependent on gadgets than ingenuity. I think his Bond is the closest comparison to Bruce Wayne.

The gadgets is what I really like most about the Bond movies. Just like real life I like all of the toys/gadgets in the new automobiles. The more bells and whistles the better I like it.

Moonraker was the first Bond Movie I saw, and I walked out thinking it was the best movie ever.

My thoughts exactly. I still prefer Roger Moore over Sean Connery. I cannot stand to hear that guy (Sean Connery) talk during the movie. It just ruins the whole movie for me when he opens his mouth to speak. I absolutely refuse to watch his movies. Roger Moore was pretty cool IMO regardless of what all of the Bond heads say.

Admittedly, For Your Eyes Only was a step in the right direction. The only way was up, of course. Maybe 007 was the first test person for the notorious blue pill?

It's odd that the 'geriatric' Moore seemed so effete and unconvincing in Moonraker, yet in the very next film, FYEO, he was at the top of his game in terms of spy-adventure coolness and arched-brow action poses. I notice this 1981 movie hasn't got a lot of comment from Moore's detractors or rom Bond fans in general, but the fans who do know the film -- like me! -- realize there's good reason to list it among the best 007 movies.

To me, Moonraker killed the franchise. They turned a great villain (Jaws) into a sissy, ripped-off Star Wars, and Moore was too geriatric to pull off being a deadly secret agent. To me, Spy who loved me was the last great Bond until Casino Royale came along. So I've collected all Sideshow Bond figures from Dr.No to Jaws, but stopped there. How many memorable Bond villains can you name after Jaws? Right, none.

I really liked Dalton (he had the looks and the cool), but the movies aren't that great. Brosnan was too soft, he only got good in his last Bond. Lazenby never had a chance, and Connery, well, need we say more?

So all I'm asking for now, is another iconic bad guy. One you won't forget.

And can Sideshow please, please, make a Goldfinger, Grant and Rosa Klebb, Baron Samedi, Pleasance Blofeld (with cat, of course), ...
Is that too much to ask for?

as a kid thought it was great! as an adult it was campy at best but i've always enjoyed connery, moore, and brosnan as bond.

It was bond.
I was a kid.
It is by no means the best or worst it is in the middle for me.
Now as an adult I can honestly say that Connery is bond,Moore was good,Dalton was good,Brosnan was great,Lazenby was decent and Graig has just breathed new life into the character for me.I find Graig more Conneryesque.

I am not a huge Roger moore bond fan but he had his moments but to me Mookraker aint it. and I am not a flemming purist either but Moonraker and Spy who loved me were just too over the top for me. I think that they reined in nicely with Octopussy and for your eyes only. Moore had decent comedic timing but even when fed great lines his delivery was a little flat especially when contrasted to Sean connery.

For her majesty's secret service - I feel Laznby only had 1 crack at the role for a reason
moonraker - not my worst but it was a tough choice.
Diamonds are forever - connery's worst between Jimmy Dean and the guy from Rocky Horror as blofeld

To me, Sean Connery is James Bond. I am thinking that as each actor plays Bond for very long the films tend to get worse and worse. The early Sean Connery Bond films were pretty decent. Diamonds Are Forever is probably the weakest one of his bunch.

Unfortunately, George Lazenby kinda is the underrated - transitional - Bond. On Her Majesty's Secret Service is a pretty good flick!

I'm not a big Daniel Craig fan. I'm debating whether to see the next Bond film.

Timothy Dalton is good in everything else he's ever done. I'd watch The Rocketeer or Flash Gordon a thousand times before one of his Bond films.

Pierce Brosnan seemed to get all the elements right a few times. Die Another Day was a little out there in parts.

A number of Roger Moore's Bond films are campy, cartoonish and super-heroish. Like Adam West playing Bond. Not that that's a bad thing. I liked him better as The Saint. Jaws was a pretty cool villain, and probably the only one that was indestructable. But when a building collapses on Jaws and he gets up, brushes himself off and keeps going like the energizer bunny, c'mon. I thought it was GREAT that Roger Moore lampooned himself in the Cannonball Run. I read somewhere that he always played Bond for laughs. I would watch Moore's Bond films with the '60's Batman movie and any Mel Brooks movie. They're good, but not good the way you want them to be. C'mon a sub-marine car? I want one of those!!

If I didn't know and love the other, more serious versions of Bond -- including Moore's own For Your Eyes Only, which is excellent -- I'd probably like Moonraker. But it's just so silly and childish compared to the meatier, more adult interpretations of the character and his milieu, that I cannot bring myself to enjoy it. There's just too much camp and overt pandering to the children's market.

For me, even though Moore was the Bond I grew up with, I didn't become a fan of the series until I discovered the Connery Bonds on TV. Now I love them all with the exception of Moore, who is just too comical and old-mannish most of the time, but even he made one or two decent ones. Dalton was awesome in the role, but his movies were lackluster; Brosnan was decent but not tough enough IMO. Daniel Craig, bad*** extraordinaire, rules the roost!

It's pretty bad, though not as bad as Live and Let Die, IMO. I'm a huge Bond fan, and it's definitely the second worst of the series. If they had thrown in the redneck sheriff from Live and Let Die and put him in a space suit, then it would be the worst.
