I'm sure the movie will be fine but the trailer doesn't scream Star Trek to me. Looks like another generic doomsday movie.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...
Seeing the Enterprise go into the ocean reached deep into me since I remember when I had a dream as a kid of the Enterprise crashing into the water and exploring underwater.
Reserving judgement but it would have been revolutionary if this next Trek movie was about exploring a strange new world and seeking out new life forms
Looks like role reversal with Kirk taking the sacrificial fall instead of Spock. Note Kirk's shirt on the hand inside the containment chamber while Spock's hand delivers the 'prosper' signage outside. And just before that scene you hear what appears to be Kahn saying, "Is there not anything you wouldn't do for your family?"
I skipped out on the first film at theaters because I was fooled thinking it was just going to be a mindless action film mixed with a variation of Star Trek 90210 based solely on the trailers. I was big time wrong and it ended up as one of my top ten all-time movies, maybe higher. This is more of the same. This is nothing more than an attention grabber and is not indicative of the entire film I'm sure. I wholeheartedly trust JJ in this. I don't know that this is Khan, though. I understand the frustration of the pervasive theme in Trekland being vengeance, but few sentiments are as intriguing as revenge.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.
If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.
I'll go to it for sure. But this whole revenge theme is getting tired.....Khan wanted revenge, Nero wanted revenge, blah blah blah.....now Gary Mitchell(?) wants revenge, too. Meh...
I liked the first movie as a movie, but I didn't like it as Star Trek. I'm hoping that this second film has a bit more intelligence/ humanity in it. I never liked the technobable of later trek either. What I'm referring to is Kirk and company figuring their way out of a situation rather than the technology solving it. First movie had too many coincedence with finding Spock and Scotty, the transporters solution, red matter, etc. The first movie made me think of ST Nemesis too much. Also, I hope this Enterprise survives and no character sacrafices themselves this time around. I've seen enough starships crash and enough popular characters die that it rivals DC and Marvel in the dead/not dead category.
