One thing I'm noticing as someone who works at the theater is the number of people coming out of the movie at various intervals to take breaks. Some walk up and down the halls. Some buy food. Some just sit in the lobby for 10 minutes. I'm not sure what to make of that.

            Thought it was fantastic.
Also felt it ended at a good point.

Good movie, but it has its flaws.
It's too long, and many different Tolkien elements have been brought together, which is not great for the flow of the story. LOTR was much smoother.
I love the Dwarves, but I wish they were a little more...competent. They need to be saved out of scrapes on most occasions.
There are elements which I would have cut out to speed things up, like the fight of the stone giants. Looks great, but you can't help but wonder "why?". Why are they fighting each other, and is it needed in the story?

Really loved Radagast, I mean he even has a sled drawn by bunnies! I'll buy that action figure!!!

The Orc and Warg stuff is not really suited for young children (and not for my wife either who "has had enough of Orcs").

So all things considered, I think this movie is in need of a strict editor. After that, it will be better. And the humor is good, but also a little too much at times. I mean, the Dwarves are funny, and the Goblins, and the Trolls, etc. Peter Jackson: this is not a comedy, and we don't need any Jar Jars.
It's a good start, and I really had hoped that this wouldn't be drawn out to nine hours total, but who am I?

And the thing with the eagles?
              Not again!

I saw it sunday, It was a good movie, but there was ennough back story that Jackson didn't need to reimagine. How will they explaim where Gandalf got the ring, when it was Radagast (in the movie) who first went to Dol Guldor and saw the Necromancer.

Gandalf did not have the ring. Bilbo finds it. Gandalf will go with the White Council and chase the Necromancer out of Mirkwood and he will then return to Mordor and reveal himself as Sauron

as far as the dwarves always needing saving, that is how is happened in the book. Bilbo is the hero and has to constantly save the day
