I really think its to late for the original actors to take any major role in these films other than bit parts. I rather have it recast personally. We'll see.

If the prequels could backpedal 30 years, then I don't see why the sequels can't move forward 30 years, showing Hammil, Ford and Fisher in their old roles. Simply set the stories that far forward, introduce some young characters to slowly begin to carry the story, and go from there.

The only way I can see the transition is to put Hamill in an ObiWan kind of role, full beard and a bit reclusive. The new characters encounter him and travel through the first adventure leading to other cameos and appearances by the rest of the cast. They could really play up the Force without emphasizing the overbearing Jedi order. Maybe have some badass character whose practically leaking midichlorians in there who doesn't care about jedi or Sith, just his own agenda. They could go so many ways with this new series of films. I want to be excited, but Lucas really has left me a bit scarred.I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.
If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.Comment

By bringing in the whole Midichlorian stuff, it kind of ruined the mystical aspect of the Jedi. Sometimes explaining less is better for the story. Just like "making love" is very romantic, but giving a blow-for-blow anatomical analysis of the act ruins the romance.
Btw, I hope R2 is back to his clunky old self, and not shooting flames and oil spills. He's not a Bond car!.

I noticed the Clone Wars show is featuring the crystals that power the lightsabers. I believe the story goes that the crystals are colorless until the Padawan touches them, and their personality, etc affects the color, giving Jedis their different colored lightsabers. Now THAT is the kind of stuff I like to see. Adds to the mystical nature, and doesn't detract.

Disney, you have a chance...
I didn't have an issue with midichlorians - until they generated the virgin birth of Anankin....
At that point, I wrote off everything but the original Star Wars '77 (Yes. INCLUDING Empire and Return - and I loved those movies). I went to AOTC and Revenge, fully expecting to find out Anakin's mother was a big fat liar and that she had relations with someone. Additionally, in the prequels, Anakin wasn't a hero that moved to the dark side, he was never anything but a petulant child.
So I was out. Never even looked at the comics or the toys.
Disney has an opportunity. Find a way for me to pretend that nothing but the original trilogy exists and they have an opportunity to bring me back into the fold.Comment

In an earlier draft of the ROTS screenplay, Lucas had Palpatine directly admit that to Anakin, but he ultimately decided to make it more ambiguous in the final draft.PUNY HUMANS!Comment
