i think the existing material those sources are talking about is the EU stuff, not the first 6 movies. when it was first revealed they said it woudl be a continuation of Luke, Han and Leias storyline
I'm hopeful it will involve Luke and Leia. If Luke was to turn it would force Leia to the forefront of the story. It was even hinted at in the original trilogy.
i would consider it a betrayal of the character and a total cop out if they had Luke turn. no, if anything they need to go with the children of Luke or Leia turning to the dark side or bring in an entirely new threat.

Yeah, that's what I took it to mean, too. Simply that it won't be based on any existing Expanded Universe stuff... (thank the Maker).
I'm hoping that we see an older Luke, training the next generation of Jedi.
The Empire is still a major foe for the Alliance... and the threat of the Sith could be easily resurrected, perhaps even eschewing the previous "Rule of Two" tenet.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...
Posted this in the other thread but it's big news. Harrison Ford may indeed be back.
I really hope not. Knowing his disdain for the character I'd imagine he'd only return if Han Solo gets quickly killed off and in the most pointless and humilating way possible. (You know, I never got his hatred for the character considering how little difference there is between Han and Indy.) I feel they waited way too long to use the original cast. Like with Ghostbusters, a sequel with the original cast would have been awesome in the early 90s. Now, it would just be kind of depressing.
In my opinion, either recast the characters and have the movie start right when Jedi ended or have new characters and have the story take place a couple of generations later

Rumour is that Matthew Vaughn, the director of Kick-***, Stardust, X-Men: First Class, etc, is in talks with Lucasfilm & Disney to direct Star Wars: Episode VII.
When Mark Hamill was being interviewed during the premiere for Jedi he said the next installment would take place at least 18 years in the future and that Skywalker would come back in a different "existence". This is the story I wanted to see before they started the prequel...stuff. So much promise injected back in the franchise now. Perhaps it can be taken seriously again? This is great news.

Yeah I am hoping we may see an older Luke training a new order of Jedi and a resurgent of the Sith.
all I can say is, if they go with original cast, which would be very cool by the way, Hamill and Fisher really need to get in shape. Ford is still in great shape so no issues there
