Only in the 70s could this have been made.

It's so odd that this exists, since Lucas apparently hates it and had nothing to do with it, considering how controlling he is with the property is nowadays. No amount of edits will ever erase the bootleg copies of this!!!

From the pic above, this seems to have been filmed after Mark Hamill's car accident. Carrie Fisher seems higher than an X-Wing in this. The cartoon is kind of cool, but the designs are just strange.

There is no excuse for Bea Arthur and Art Carney other than, IT WAS THE 70S!!!

Yes indeed, it was filmed shortly after Hamill's accident.

The SWHS is notable for a few things... including the Nelvana animated debut of Boba Fett, cameos from the major cast members, and for having a redubbed deleted scene from Star Wars which wasn't seen again until the Blu Ray boxset was released.

              i love it
the rehash of the cantina aliens
Bea, Harvey, Art, Chewies family - it was all fantastic for me as a kid and I still enjoy the campy nature of it now.

it is painful to watch but I do admit to owning a copy in DVD....watched only once. the animated segment is cool, but I understand that is on the extras on the Bluray set now

Thankfully,my family went Christmas shopping when this aired. I was let down at the time but now I'm glad I never saw it.

it's worth watching once, just for novelty and 70's cheese at it's worst.

It only aired once. I loved it as a kid (hoping to see it every year during the holidays, but alas no), cringed at it 31 years later, and now thanks to Rifftrax, I've grown to love it (even without the Rifftrax).

I remember reading about it when i was a kid and was really jealous that you guys across the pond had it on tv and we never, saw a few bootleg copies at toy shows i use to go to but heard how bad it was and could not bring myself to get a copy, now i would not mind watching it,just to see for myself what it's like.

The problem is that he doesn't understand the LOVE people have for star wars.
He mistakes box office numbers for endearment. I own The Holiday Special and love it for it's kitsch, its use of original characters, its sign of the times. It is terrible in many ways but it is dear to our hearts. Other things he has made have made huge money but have sorely missed a place in people's hearts.

The cartoon part of the special was actually pretty darn good. 1st appearance of Boba Fett. Worth watching for that alone.
