What do you want to see in a Rise of the Apes sequel?

Do you want to see it picked up right where Rise of the Planet of the Apes left off? With the pandemic taking down humanity and apes led by Ceasor forging their society amidst the human survivors?

Do you want to jump ahead to the established ape society and return of the astronauts?

Should there be Mutants in this new reboot Apes universe? Do you want to see them battling apes for domination over the remains of Earth?

Without a nuclear war this time, do you want to see apes using electricity and driving around in vehicles amidst the remnants of industrialized consumer culture left behind by the humans?

I think that would be better suited for the third film. There's still some explaining to do, considering the only smart apes are in San Fransisco and only number maybe 150 or so. They need to use the ALZ113 in other locations to spread their influence and humanity's not going to just drop away without a fight.

Maybe eventually, but not for a while. As smart as they are, they would need a while to study up on electricity and such. And how long does gasoline last, anyway? Less than a year, unless a chemical stabilizer's been added. They would need to know not only how to gain access to oil but how to refine it, if they are going to use cars. That nonsense about the mutants driving buses a couple thousand years in the future won't work with this more realistic approach they're taking (which I like). Also, chimps are different animals than humans--they might not see any need in the least to be industrialized. Finding value in that might be culturally unique to us, in that they might find more value in items that are (f.ex.) more green, like hemp or leather clothing.

          Agree 100%

And, and this is a serious answer, I want to see more apes wearing PANTS!

Even with a sudden increase in intelligence, our new ape overlords will have a difficult time creating a perfect society.
Perhaps one faction of apes takes the path of imitating human society, even the worst parts. Maybe this is the start of gorilla militarism.

Incidentally, in reality, chimpanzees are more warlike than gorillas.
I think a struggle between apes who wish to get along with human survivors, and those who wish to exterminate us, could be the vehicle for a bloody action movie, of the kind I would like to see.

I noticed with interest that the other super intelligent ape was named 'Koba'
Well, this was Stalin's given name, so I could foresee Koba being the ape-supremicist in a future movie. Plus he had a scarred face, and (unfortunately) in most movies ugly=evil.

I want to see huge raging battles that require planning, not brute force. If there is brute force, I want to see blood spillage. Blood and guts. And more blood.

I would like to see Ceasar leading a ragtag army of apes driving dozens of 4x4s, equipped with improvised cannons and rocket launchers.

Pick it up a few yrs where it left off. But yeah its time for war! Hardcore battles while the virus spreads and global wars start to stir up. And Apes with guns and clothing is a must.

It'd be cool to see more of what was in the original Boulle novel-- The apes being more technologically advanced. I dunno-- more blood would be cool, too.

My problem with astronauts at this point is the "meh" factor. What drives both the original and the novel is the human character stuck in the upside-down world of the apes, and we're along for the ride with him trying to figure it out. When we've watched the apes buld their society, and later some astronauts from the past show up -- who cares?

The only way I can see it worrking at all is more of a time-travel mission to aqcuire something in the future abd return to the past with it to prevent it all and save humanity -- with all the requisite "is humanity worth saving?" discussion. Making it a race or hunt like that, building both sides' perspectives, getting the audience really torn by the good and bad on each side . . . that might make for a good third or fourth movie for this series.

The one thing the movie does have going for it is the emotional core of fathers and sons. Between Lithgow and Franco, and in turn Franco and Ceasar.

I'd imagine that would be at the centre of a sequel. An increasingly desperate human population at the verge of extinction and this new undefined ape society... with both Ceasar and Franco caught in between their loyalty to their respective species and their relationship with each other.
