I've read a few comments on a couple different boards that said there was stuff in the trailers that didn't make the final film... Did you notice a lot of that?

The only scene I didn't see in the movie that I saw in the trailers and on commercials was the scene with James Franco's character telling Caesar not to let them catch him. Other than that, everything seemed to be intact.

There were LOTS of little homage pieces to the original POTA that MIB41 and I both loved, too!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Emeraldknight and myself saw this Saturday evening and I've needed a couple of days to let this sink in. This is really an excellent film on every level. The story is very well thought out. The acting is top notch. And the effects are so much better than what you see on TV. I can say with complete confidence, this film fits in well with the original series. Where the originals never gave you the specifics of their evolution, this one takes on that task and tells it convincingly, while staying far away from the cliche's that dogged the Tim Burton remake a decade ago. This film tackles those ideas with the same reverence to the concept as the original '67 classic did. And it not only explains their evolution, but gives thoughtful explanation for why they revolt as they do. To really say more is to give away too much of the story. What I WILL say is if you have EVER been a fan of this series, you MUST see this film. You will NOT be disappointed. I just hope this film gets enough business to warrant at least one more sequel. A great film that has revitalized the importance and relevance of this franchise.

Missing storylines not mentioned in the film-
Cesar's friendship with the little blonde girl next door over the years.
Some sort of relationship with the chimp Cornelia who is taken away.
James Franco driving by as the Building explodes.

If you watch trailers 2 & 3 you can see the scenes.

Additional Photos of the storylines exist as well

I tried to be a little vague, but if you have seen the film, you will understand that the dots are there and be able to piece the missing storyline together.
if you haven't seen the film, these will bits mean nothing.

I am hoping that this will have a Director's cut and they have the $$ to render and complete the missing scenes.

Now a director's cut of this film would be tops on my list!

This film made me fall i nlove with POTA all over again. My wife alreay wants to OWN the film. You can't help but love Cesar & his buddy apes. But they were also terrifying at the same time. I saw Copnquest & Battle films just before seing Rise and the word NO is just so powerful.
Weird thing about a sequel is that I really liked the APES being the good guys. I'd hate to ruin things by making humans the protagonists.

I just love the whole movie! The bridge sequence is particularly cool as it shows WHY humans could lose a war with primates. As humans, we tend to THINK as humans, including using human battle tactics and techniques. Those same rules do not apply with primates as was shown by Ceasar and his pals. Just excellent stuff.

I also loved the way they aged Caesar in the beginning of the movie with the tree sequence. THAT'S how special effects should be used; to augment and aid the story, not BE the story [TRANSFORMERS, I'm talkin' ta you!]....

And I also hope to see a director's cut of this one. Seeing more apey goodness would be sweeeeet! And I certainly hope that it makes enough at the BO for Fox to greenlight a sequel.

My wife can sign and she translated out many of the ape conversations for me. The subtitles are accurate, but some parts were really poignant when signed. Like Cesar saying he was sorry and wanting to come home.
                    It really tugs at you.

I would imagine having a knowledge of signing could make seeing this movie an entirely different experience because you would REALLY be getting into Caesar's head. Thanks for that insight!

Dug it! I saw it last night and I went in with no pre-conceptions... I thought I would hate the CGI, but it was great... the quality blew me away man. I loved all the homages to the originals, they were cool and not cheesy or heavy handed. I liked how the apes became sentient, it was a bit convenient but still well done. I loved the bridge scene, and how the apes were actually not out to kill the humans, they just wanted to get away. I smell a franchise here and it could be really good...

                        *SPOILER* prognostication...

My guess is that the humans will dissapear due to the virus that makes the apes smarter, spread by the lab ape handler to the neighbor etc... and the apes will, well procreate and because the intellegence is genetic they will just continue to evolve. The lost Icarus will return to a very different planet earth.... THE PLANET OF THE APES!

                            Spoiler alert....

My thinking is the virus will not kill all humans but leave them in a condition where the apes will have an even playing field to fight for dominance. That group of apes in this film is clearly not enough to take over the world, let alone a country or state. But if a virus helps eliminate numbers that makes it a game changer. Perhaps the virus even creates a genetic detriment to those pregnant, that would serve as a set up for not only why Apes come to be what they are, but why humans decline in their evolution. Polar opposites thanks to this drug.

yeah, my thought was that the plague from the virus will start to cause pandemonium and so no one will care to go after the apes for a good long while, by which time, as you said they will have procreated (a lot) and gotten smarter and will be on a more even field of battle for the take over.
besides, they can't kill all the humans or what fun would sequels be

Just went over to BOX OFFICE MOJO and could not believe my eyes when I saw "THE HELP" beat "ROTPOTA" at the box office on Wednesday. What IS this world coming to....? All I can say is there must be an awful lot of out-of-work women filing into the theaters to see this thing because it looks an awful lot like a chick flick....
