I don't care what anyone says about the new Planet of the Apes...
I have never seen a single episode of the ape series nor any of the movies, except for the Burton film. I am very aware of their nature, just never had any interest as a child and not much more now.
I had absolutely no plans to see this film till I watched that clip. I'm sold. I'm no film or CGI expert, never will be. I have go with vibe, feeling and instinct, the only tools I own. I thought that was outstanding. That short segment showed such poignancy and hit me where I live. I really have no basis of comparison, but I've got a really good feeling on this one.
Sandy could very well be right on the money regarding this movie, but what's been released thus far has really drawn in a complete non-fan like myself. That's no small accomplishment. That scene has roped me in.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.
If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.
Okay sorry but I need to chime in now.
1)Looks decent I'll give it a chance thanks for the clip Hec that looked very cool to me with raw emotion.
2)CGI apes why not? Beats 40 year olds in rubber suits from the 60's and 90's.
Don't get me wrong I own and love all the original pota films and tv series.
But this film does look decent enough to watch.
3)While not a fantastic film by any means I did enjoy the Burton apes film with marky mark.Sorry but I liked it.
4)Again with the avatar please....It's your typical whiteman steals from the first nations/indigenous peoples film through and through nothing new here.Aside from the CGI'ed Na'vi or is that supposed to be Navajo?
I saw this film already years ago it was called Dances with wolves!!!
Guess what it also won awards...LOL
5)My prediction is it will not be a massive blockbuster but I think it will do well enough to spark a few sequels.
6)Much love to all just my two cents.
“When you say “It’s hard”, it actually means “I’m not strong enough to fight for it”. Stop saying its hard. Think positive!”
...and as much as we love the classic POTA...come on...seriously...Jane Goodall could tell the differences...
I think the movie looks good and plan to see it. Dang Hector your comment cracked me up!
Hector---I think you and I are gonna be good buds, dood!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Jackson's Kong was a joke. That scene with those brontosaurus or whatever they were chasing Jack Black??? Need I say more? WAY overdone and far too silly for my tastes... That whole movie is just too much for me personally. The critics slammed it. It didn't do well at the box office at all, and neither will "Rise of the Apes". People are laughing out loud at that trailer... Watch, I'm telling you guys-- HUGE stink bomb.
Just my 2 of course.
Trust me, just because I've worked in Hollywood for the last 25 or so years and have directed my own films, doesn't mean I'm the one to ask about all this crap. My tastes in films are VERY eclectic and very "acquired". Most of the films I like are older, not solely because of nostalgic reasons, either. I think directors, actors and just films in general were just better in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Again, in my opinion, for whatever it's worth, you can't even compare the talent, pedigree and sensibilities of today's generation of genre directors to guys like Ridley Scott, Cameron, Spielberg, John Carpenter, John Milius, Franklin J Schaffner, Sidney Lumet and Norman Jewison, (to name a few) to the McG's, Len Weisman's and Brett Rattners of the world. They're just different... I'd rather watch "Conan" or "Alien" any day over any of the CG, soul-less monstrosities. But then I love "Avatar", but then again, that is Cameron. I'm weird, I know.

While it was not exactly a huge monstrous box office smash...its worldwide take was $550,517,357 (Box Office Mojo)...from a $207 million production budget...a nice tidy profit if you ask me...certainly not Welfare money...more than I make...lol...
The only thing it's missing is the statue of liberty (though they do broadcast in NYC. And I mean hey - there's British army in helicopters with a cage later on!)
