Heh, I got pretty badly beaten up during Davison's first season but I liked him and hoped the series would improve. I stayed right up until "Caves" then didn't even bother with Baker's debut.
I just stopped watching Doctor Who, when I would flick it on, I'd turn it off pretty quick.
After the drought of the hiatus, I started watching "Trial" with one eye and noticed Colin's Doctor becoming more likable and eventually I was back on track for the McCoy era.
Now, I view those Baker years as a time capsule I left for myself.

Big Finsh really let Colin's Doctor shine in a way JNT never could
The NJN scene with Pat is actually very tongue in cheek as they were very good freinds off camera. Colin was a boyhood fan od Pat's Doctor and he was David Troughton's roomate after drama school (I beleive he was part of David's wedding party) and Pat had known him for 20 years before ever being cast as the 6th doctor. It was the high point of his tenure to do the 2 doctors with Pat.
Really..? Except for his episode with Troughton and struggling to get through the 'Cybermen' appearance, I hadn't frankly watched much of Colin. Only watched a few minutes of McCoy.
That was a cool read and very good viewing, thanks Brian. I actually thought that Michael Grade made perfect sense for the reasons to axe it. He could have given them more money but it would have been like polishing a turd with that production team.
I quite liked Colin Baker at the time, thinking he was a refreshing change from Peter Davidson. That all changed when Trial of A Timelord aired, man that was awful! You really have to feel for the guy!

I'll have to check out "Trial" someday.
Trial is really not the best example of Colin's work (as a 14 parter it's a real commitment)
Timelash and 2 Doctors are my favorites
Attack of the Cybermen isn't bad but the plot holes of are massive. I really don't like Revelation of the Daleks but its useful a precursor to remebrance of the Daleks with Mccoy)
Twin Dilemma is pretty awful but then most regeneration stories aren't great anyway
For set design and production i've found the McCoy era the absolute low point of the series ... Much of the McCoy era seems to have been filmed using a standard handheld off the shelf camcorder.
Colin's era was at the very least a little more pretty than McCoy's
I'm not a hardcore Dr. Who fan by any stretch but I did watch the Tom Baker era religiously as a kid. Started to lose interest after he left and the Colin Baker era was the killer for me. All I remember of it was the Dr had become an unlikable doughy looking man stuffed into a hedious clown suit. Haven't really watched Who since. I did like the 1996 made for TV movie though.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...
I Liked Colin as the Doctor, from reading Doctor Who magazine i realizedthey were trying to make him darker and were going to later soften him up. they just didn't really get the chance to do all that. not with Micheal Grade trying to kill thje show. yes the costume is rediculous , but he was good in the rloe.
"Hang on Lady... We go for a RIDE!" - Shorty to Willie Scott.Best movie line from Indiana Jones & the Temple Of Doom
Tho the suit was hideous there was no way any producer was going to let The Doctor wear all Black in the 1980's. Chris Ecclestion got to wear all black but he was wearing what looked like street clothes-not a costume.
It's only a symptom of the greater problem the show had in the `80's. Internally many seemed to be working against the show and Colin. The controller, the producer and the story editor were all making the show worse. Only 2 of those problems could have been fixed. Michael Grade probably would still have axed the show.
