TRON: Legacy

Ok folks. I never saw the original so maybe I can be the guinea pig for the film. I'm coming in fresh with little to no knowledge of the original and I enjoyed TRON: Legacy. It was not too complex and without knowing the original I followed the prologue and current plot pretty well. A few things confuse me but not so much that it detracts from enjoying the new film.

Sandy, as I watched the film I didn't really feel it dragged. I see there are points where you have to fill people in to keep them up on the story. Plus the characters have to advance to the next part o the story and plan their next move but I didn't think it stalled out the pacing. I think sometimes in film there is an overload of action and not enough breathers to take in the plot.

Perhaps the begining could have been shortened. Did we need that framing? The characters could have discussed it in dialogue and we would know the same info anyway. But I take it the fast paced moments are what you liked. They could have just started with the clip from the Trailer where Bruce Boxleitner tells Sam Flynne about the pager. Still the extra info on Sam rounds out the story and defines the character.

Saw it yesterday, and I was quite impressed.
I love the original, so I'd been greatly anticipating this movie.

When the new Recognizers made their first appearance, I got chills. Very cool!

Just saw the first press reports on this film here in the UK.

It gave it a massive big turkey and said it was one of the worst films to come out this year.

I'll be in my seat in 90 minutes to see this in 3D. I'll give a review as well, when I get back. I have a feeling this movie will be just like the original - Modest success at the box office, while creating a new generation of fans who enjoyed the concept.

Sounds great, any comments on the 3D?

IMO the 3D does nothing to enhance the film. I saw it at IMAX 3D (Supposedly on the world's 3rd biggest screen) and the 43 minutes of IMAX-specific footage (essentailly a taller image) was more than enough on it's own, it just doesn't need the 3D. I find the oversize IMAX glasses annoying too.

I saw Disney's Tangled last week and that uses 3D much more effectively, there is a floating-lantern scene where all the kids in the cinema were actually reaching out in front of their faces trying to grab them! Unfortuanetly for those of us hoping for a big TRON performance (resulting in a sequel) Tangled will blow all the other kid's films away this Summer, it's a really enjoyable movie for all ages.

PS - Just wanted to add, when you check out TRON keep your eyes peeled for Sam Flynn's vintage PK Ripper :-)

Saw it last night. Great sound. It's hard to tell in places what is soundtrack and what is sound effect (which I liked). The 3D wasn't in your face. Liked the Tron inspired Disney castle at the begining. Smiled when i saw the PK Ripper. Watch out for the Black Hole toys. My 10 year old son loved it. I thought it was great.

Thor and Transformers(Dark of the Moon) trailers too.

My and the my three year old went last night and man it was like me and him where the only ones there! It was a cool and was his first 3-D flick but we had fun.

Saw it this morning in 3-D and enjoyed it quite a bit. I agree, the 3-D is not really needed here. So if you want to save a few bucks, please do so. The effects themselves are very good, but there wasn't that much 3-D environment to be wowed by. The light cycles were AWESOME and the way they de-res is amazing. I would love to talk about the story, but I think that should wait until more people have gotten in to see it. So no spoilers here. But I will tell you, being a long time Tron fan, I was very pleased with the attention to the story and to the relics from the original film. You even get to see the old Flynn video arcade...but even THAT is a special moment. I won't ruin it by saying any more. I think it was well balanced. Perhaps a tad slow in the middle, but that was for story purposes. I liked that because I could savor the moments in that world much longer than you could in the original. I recommend it to anyone who was a fan of the original. You will enjoy where they take the characters.

I loved it through and through. If you are familiar with dialog from the first one you'll see some funny inserts and references.
Not one second of disappointment for me but then I'm a huge fan.
The sound track was amazong! Vangelis Blade Runner meets John Carpenter with a modern techno twist.

Just got back from seeing the movie and loved every minute of it! My wife suffered through it but I remained completely geeked out the whole time with a grin from ear to ear. Hope it gets a sequel.
