A friend of mine also refused to watch it until I played it during my NYE party. He grudgingly watched it and went out the next day and bought it on blu-ray. I think he has watched it twice since. You guys and gals who haven't seen it, don't know what you are missing.

I will agree with Mikey01. I enjoyed this movie, but since I grew up with the original TOS cast, movies 1-6 feel like a better fit. Doesn't mean that I disliked the new one, though.
        It's all good!

Am I the only one who thinks Insurrection was a really good Star Trek movie? It captured so much of Roddenberrys message.

          Besides I love the line:

If it's in terms of "old cast-Style Trek", yes it's the best since 'Undiscovered Country'.

Cinema Trek in general..? It'll rank in the Top 3 or 5 of the Trek movie franchise.., the other entries are alway up for discussion.

I mentioned this elsewhere, but I really wanted to hate the new Star Trek. I actually liked it. I still prefer the original crew, but the new Trek has me eager to see a sequel.

I used to say that...but not anymore...I'm tired of trying to convince people on watching a particular movie....especially the new Trek film.

No more...to the people who don't want to see it...let them not see it.

The new Star Trek is awesome...but I agree with Mike...it's not the best of the Trek flicks in my opinion.

I place it around number four or five...after Wrath of Khan, Voyage Home, Undiscovered Country, and the only Next Generation movie I liked, First Contact.

                  1. Wrath of Khan
                  2. Voyage Home
                  3. Undiscovered Country
                  4. First Contact
                  5. new Star Trek

BIG honorable mention to The Motion Picture...I know it's slow and pondering...but it's also probably the most truest to the old classic series...it has a very "Forbidden Planet" and "2001: Space Odyssey" vibe to it...and is the one that started the movie franchise going...for that...you have to give it major props.

I like your list Hector, but I would absolutely put Search For Spock above the new Trek too.

Yeah...Search for Spock is up there too...definitely.

The only things I didn't like about that one though is the new actress playing Saavik (I'm sorry, but I love Kirstie Alley)...and Kirk's son dying...I think that was just pointless.

                      But other than that...great movie.

                        My list goes like this:

                        1) Star Trek '09
                        2) Undiscovered Country
                        3) Generations
                        4) Voyage Home
                        5) Trek II: Wreck of Corn

I liked Search for Spook on repeated viewings (especially Jim Ignitowski as a Klingon Commander), but it didn't sit well with me the first time i saw it.
All Next Gen films after Generations sucked.
The very first Trek film (Motion Sickness) nearly bored me into a coma... even back in '79!
And even though it's on my list in the # 5 spot, I actually think Trek II: Wreck of Corn has dated pretty badly. Slow. plodding. Overrated. The whole bit inside the Mutara Nebula with two blind ships looking for each other... Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

At first I was wary of this new film and look. I seemed too glitzy and Star Wars like imo but I was willing to give it a try. When I saw it I actually enjoyed and it was far better than the trailers made me think. Here is my ranking.

                          Star Trek II
                          Star Trek VI
                          Star Trek First Contact
                          Star Trek IV
                          Star Trek 09

I actually like ST III and ST TMP but they didn't make it into the top five.

I too like Insurrection. It's not that bad to me. I like the Baku. There's classic non emotion chip Data. Was it the singing? It was the singing, right?
The classic Trek movie I seem to pop in the most is Undiscovered Country so I guess that's my #1. First Contact for TNG.
I liked the new Trek very much. The Spock/Uhura hook up is ok with me. The old school 'no brow' Roms were cool. The only thing that bugged me was the 'Super Nova that threated the galaxy' thing.
                              Better late than never.....

There's something strikingly "perfect" about UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY...
thank goodness for me, as TOS TREK is pretty hit and miss for me...and
thank goodness for us all... as that was the last Trek flick with the TOS crew.

Going back and watching the ever popular ST4, I was surprised at how
much I found the dialogue and overall production to be more
sloppy/irritating than I remembered it being.

I remember not finding much wrong with 5, but I wouldn't be
surprised if I went back and watched it that I'd find it simillar
                                to 4.

My secret confession is that I've never really watched 2 or 3.

I saw TMP a couple times, and like most I found it dragging.

I am fine with GENERATIONS almost as much as I was with FIRST CONTACT
...and I am another who didn't mind INSURRECTION.

NEMESIS? It hasn't clicked for me as of yet---maybe since I just watched
that funny reviewer's review on youtube I'll go back and check it again

I thought the new Trek movie was pretty hollow...and I'm usually not a
stickler for believability, but the whole sequence of KIRK beamed
off the ship onto the planet seemed pretty improbable in where he was
beamed and what happened following....people tried to explain to me that
old Spock knew where young Kirk was going to be beamed down...
but while watching it, it just seemed to fall apart for me.
