    Pine has so far had a single story over two hours to develop and convince us of his Kirk portrayal. Shatner had three seasons of TV and a bunch of movies to grow his.

    I think the kid is doing OK :-)

        No but it doesn't surprise me, I find it shocking that Hollywood has only given us one Superman movie in 30 years where he fights an equally matched opponent in knock down brawl. He pretty much has done that monthly for 70 years, might be a big part of his appeal.
        Agreed. I like Superman Returns for what it is. But it shouldn't have been that type of movie. Clearly, thats not what people wanted to see. I think Abrams could pull it off.

        Good point, and also, the character of Kirk has apparently been thrust into the Captaincy even younger than his previous timeline counterpart. We never really got to see young Kirk before. He was mentioned, and when he was, he didn't sound nearly as smooth as the then-current version.
