    Just for the record...

Shatner was, is, and always will be Kirk...there's no denying that.

But there's certainly room for Chris Pine...he will never replace Shatner...but he can damn well carry the torch for future generations.

Kinda like Dr Who...if that character has had different actors over the years...and fans have accepted it...then the same can be said about the Kirk character.

The title of this thread explains everything...a classic Trek fan, hating on the new Trek...and making silly little comments without having even seen a single frame of the film ( ).

If Mike wants to be taken seriously...then the thread should've been titled either...

Which Kirk you prefer? William Shatner or Christopher Pine?

    or

The old and washed up-toupee-wearing-old-pudgy-short man...or JJ the idiot circus boy and his pretty new pet?

You gotta cal it down the middle, Mike.

I like how Mike refers to Pine as J.J.'s new pretty Boy...then what was Shatner in TOS...ugly? Shatner in his youth was a handsome Devil & Ladies Man...doesn't it stand to reason that his replacement be good looking & charming as well?? I mean...that was a important aspect in the casting of KIRK!

both. neither. kirk is a made-up guy.
by the way, i went to see the movie again 'cause the first time i saw there were some comedians who kinda ruined for a lot of people. i seriously thought the guy in front of me was going to approach them. i think most of the people in the theater would have backed him, myself included.
i noticed a lot of other little details that riffed on the other incarnations.
for example, Pike's Admiral uniform is very similar to the Motion Picture Kirk outfit.
Pine does incorporate some of Shatner's style but he keeps it on the down low.

The giant Romulan ship was so V'ger in the opening sequence!

I think they did a reasonably good job, myself.

Yeah, I caught that too. The only good uniform from TMP. The red of the cadet outfits reminded me a bit of the II-VI uniforms as well.

What I didn't like about the new movie:

-- The interior of the Enterprise was too generic
-- Mr. Scott was way over-the-top
-- Spock & Uhura - REALLY bugged me
--I've seen the guy who played Pike in too many other roles - it was distracting for me

I enjoyed the movie. The new big three - Pine, Quinto and new McCoy work for me. New Chekov, Scott, and Sulu.......they're OK. Uhura is hot, but she's the wrong kind of hot.

Mike, you know I love ya. What do you expect people to say? Hardly anyone from our generation will ever pick Pine over Shatner. I doubt anyone who grew up w/TNG would ever say that anyone but Stewart is the real Picard. But it's this or death for TOS. Barrett, Kelley, and Doohan have passed. It wouldn't be the same without them. Shatner and Nimoy could go any day. I'd love to see Shat back for one last hurrah to pass the torch right, but that's it. No more adventures, they are all too old. Do you really want CGI with voiceovers?

I'd rather hitch a ride on the alternate timeline than say goodbye altogether. I am still trying to wrap my mind around the Spockodox. If Quinto saves Romulus in this timeline, what happens? Why not go back and save Vulcan? It seems to me that old Spock's presence is problematic for all sorts of reasons.

When you think about it, this film should'a been the Berman's gang to make. The plot is not so far fetched that Berman's people wouldn't have come up with it. They were too arrogant to make this type of film and de-valued classic Trek too much.

Breman & Bragna had no fire...it had just become a day job to them, and they were milking it dry. Glad they're gone...we needed J.J.!!

I'm not an obsessive Trek fan, but I've seen everything from TOS to Enterprise and after a third viewing now I have to say I really enjoyed this latest movie. I can't think how they could have improved it. Pine as Kirk is perfect.

Mike I loved the original Doctor Who but haven't seen any of the new stuff and don't particularly care too, but I wouldn't knock it without seeing it.

Mate do yourself a favour and see Trek on a big screen with great sound before it disappears, I challenge you not to enjoy it.

                        Cheers,
