J.J. Talks Trek Sequel-Shatner & Khan?

According to Bruce Greenwood even Captain Robert April is also being thrown around as a character who might be in the sequel.
As for JJ and all his, “But this all assumes that there’s another story that’s going to be told.” he noted. “We’re all still coming down from making this movie.” ..its a bunch of hooey. Just last week I read that Paramount greenlit the sequel BEFORE this film even opened, and the writers have been working on it since April. This was said by the head of production at Paramount in an address he was making to shareholders (I'll see if I can find the article?).
In the speech he also said the storyline would be approved by mid-summer, a full script by the fall, and preproduction would begin before the end of the year, with actual shooting to be done next spring/summer.
I dont know how Shatner could fit in though, as much as it would be great to see him. Quinto and Nimoy were dead ringers for each other. Shat is short and rotund, and looks nothing like the very tall and almost gaunt Pine, so a scene together isnt going to work. Plus, this sets a precedent to dust off all of the surviving cast members for future films.
....Hmmm....maybe Shat IS Khan!"Crayons taste like purple!" -
I'm one of the only ones to say this on these boards, but
I didn't didn't really like this new TREK movie all that much---
however, I do like the TREK franchise a lot and desire for it to
succeed ----and it is of course doing just that.
If Shatner appears in the next Trek movie, it'd be a perfect idea in my eyes,
and a dream come true for many people.
Frankly I'm shocked that a movie I thought was "so-so" is doing so well
at the box office---but I feel the same way about the Nolan Bat franchise
and it continued kicking butt into it's second movie.
So, yeah......I hope Shatner is in the second one AND I hope it kicks butt."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I would rather not see shatner in it unless he could drop 50lbs.
Sorry he's just to fat now.He was to fat in generations every time he was on screen he was profusely sweating.Unless he shows up all fat and bloated and tells pine to lay off the saurian brandy and cheetos or else this is whats going to happen.
Don't get me wrong I love the shat but hes just to fat to be kirk now.“When you say “It’s hard”, it actually means “I’m not strong enough to fight for it”. Stop saying its hard. Think positive!”Comment

Yup...I totally agree with ya!As much as I love Bill...and don't want him to have cameo just for the sake of it...and he really doesn't look good. He just doesn't fit in the new Movies...imagine poor young Kirk looking at his future Self thinking..."oh god...I'm gonna look like that?!"

Of course it is!Chris Nolan makes the same statements about the Batman franchise. Like after making a Billion Dollars at the Box Office...Warner Bros. won't do absolutely anything to get him back for another Flic!

To be honest, I would have prefered the movie without Old Spock.
It just wasn't necessary, IMO.
I'm also not looking forward to seeing Shatner again.
That's ancient history.
I know, his demise in Generations was very weak, (so unlike Spock's heroic sacrifice in TWOK), but I'd prefer that book closed.
Let the new cast do their own thing!.

new movies would be real cool, I dunno maybe that's
just predictable and lame---oh well
outrage over how Kirk died in GENERATIONS, and now that you brought up
Spock's death in TWOK, and called it "different"
----I don't really see how it is that different.
at making these new movies...but I wouldn't want to be the one
who (for this conversation's sake) ruled out Spock's appearance
in STAR TREK '09
That decision is/was a tough one financially, spiritually and otherwise."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. Mike, I don't think it is Shatner himself that people are throwing out, it is how do you put him in the new time line created without making the entire story about how the original Kirk came back from the dead, but looks like he aged the 20 years since Generations was filmed. I love the zeal with how William Shatner plays a part. Give him a script that he likes, explains why he looks like he does now, and it will work out OK. Shorter than Chris Pine? Hollywood has dealt with actors of different height, so this wouldn't be a problem.
As much as I love Shatner as Kirk, I would not want the new series of movies to be "who guest stars this time?" I do not want to see a new version of Khan either. I want new. My problem with the new movie (as I stated in another thread) is that outside of the twist of creating an alternate time line/reality, the heroes versus bad guy plot, to me, was basically the same as in Nemesis or TWOK. I want new, even if that means sacrificing seeing my childhood hero on the screen once more. I also think Chris Pine is a pretty good actor and deserved of being a new Kirk. It's all good!Comment

Well, you know if it ends up that the Shat is really going to be in this I'm sure he will either lose some weight or they will do the same sort of stuff they did to him in that Direct TV commercial to make him look younger and thinner.

They did it for Sigourney Weaver too:

But as an idea, I think bringing in an older Kirk after they had older Spock would be a mistake (not to mention the plot hoops they'd have to jump through to negate his Generations death). I also think it's a mistake to bring in Khan.Comment
