From what I'm reading on this thread ....I'm hearing the same from trek fans I've been talking to....I think the movie should do fine...I'll be there and if the opening weekend buzz is good,It might bring back fans that abandoned Trek years ago.The early season release with help the movie from being over shadowed by bigger movies coming out in June and July.
What I'm wondering is this.....TOS,TNG,DS9 all created some good canon and reinforced great canon(voyager gave me some problems and Enterprise screwed things up until it's last & best season)so will Star Trek start over and forget part of it's past or find a way to make it all work with this new story line?
