From what I recall, Trek movies seemed to hit on evens (Wrath of Khan) and miss on odds (tmp, search for spock). Not sure how many movies have gone by now. Is this an even or an odd?
NEMESIS was the last Trek movie before this new one titled simply "STAR TREK".
And NEMESIS was an "even" numbered Trek flick---as it was number TEN
in the series.
That would make this new movie (STAR TREK) number eleven in
the series---and thus an "odd" numbered Trek movie.
So there goes the "Hey, it's even numbered so it's gotta be cool"
mindset.
I think it's fitting though, that this movie is "odd" numbered---it is, after all,
a "reboot" of sorts----and in many ways, it's "out with the old, in with the
new"----so, I think it's time to let up on the age-old "Even numbered Trek
movies are better" mindset
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix
If you guys really wanna know the truth ? -- and because of it's release soon I guess I can let the cat out of the bag......
I couldn't really care less about the new Trek movie.
I probably wont see it because I just plain don't like new movies, but my hard stance against it has been mostly for entertainment value ......
You guys have been eating it up so much it just compelled me to keep taking it further...
Your enthusiasm is like crack to me
My honest opinion is it will probably be like Superman Returns ... meaning be popular for about a week then fade into oblivion ... But I really couldn't care less either way ...
Hey Mike---so let's take this thing full circle as far as how I view you and
your relationship to the new Trek movie---I might have asked you this
before, but I don't know if you directly responded:
How much is the fact that Nimoy (a big oldschool element) is sticking his face
into the movie affecting you in anticipating the movie to any notable degree?

It's not effecting my anticipation one single bit.
It's nice to see him connected with it for his sake and i'm sure his paycheck is pretty big, but the movie itself doesn't really interest me.
I like classic Trek, Next Gen and DS9.
Any other stuff I just don't care about one way or the other.

Thanks for the answer...and, ya know, I wasn't sure I'd ever hear ya
say you "liked" TNG all that much. I've seen you say some cool things
about TNG---but at least once I thought I saw you say that it was
pretty bad on the whole.
I must've misremembered or mis-gauged.
(Personally, I like TNG a lot---but have yet to "gel" with NEMESIS---
I still think I have to see it again to give it a final verdict)
