The si-fi channel has become very short sighted in the past few years. The way they break the shows season in half and take it off the air for months on end has hurt many of their shows. They have certain expectations for their shows and if they don't perform fast enough they lose interest in them. They just keep taking off the good stuff and replacing them with bull....

Then it seems the channels switch gears and become mini networks, you still get some good stuff but when you try to crawl out of niche, you become less special...
I remember the Hittins Boys and Gruber - they used to show serialized episodes of Supercar! Go Mike Mercury!

Cute misspelling with roundish fonts in a lower case appeals more to women.

                Yes, I believe you! Smart!

Seems like the female audience for sci-fi (the genre) has been widening a lot now a days - so that seems very odd. Making a specialty channel's programing less specific seems like a big mistake to me.

According to an article on animation magazines web-site, the spelling change is so they can license/merchandise their channel...couldnt register the term Sci-fi...too generic, and in standard use.

                    I know what your saying!
I dont know about Manitoba, but to get Lonestar in Alberta (where the channel should have had the most appeal) you had to buy an expensive digital channel package deal. If they had put it on with the regular cable packages it would have fared a lot better. That and at the end they were running too much garbage like "The Campbells" and the same 20 or so episodes of Bonanza over and over again.
There is a new cable channel trying to start up out of Edmonton that is going to focus on rural lifestyles, and I'm hoping they will pick up the slack left by Lonestar.....Hoping they pick up cowboy Country too!!!

Sorry to divert from the topic at hand folks!

Here's an article about this EXTREMELY stupid move:

Sci Fi Channel Aims to Shed Geeky Image With New Name - TVWeek - News

                          This is my favorite part:

“The name Sci Fi has been associated with geeks and dysfunctional, antisocial boys in their basements with video games and stuff like that, as opposed to the general public and the female audience in particular,” said TV historian Tim Brooks, who helped launch Sci Fi Channel when he worked at USA Network.

Mr. Brooks said that when people who say they don’t like science fiction enjoy a film like “Star Wars,” they don’t think it’s science fiction; they think it’s a good movie.

“We spent a lot of time in the ’90s trying to distance the network from science fiction, which is largely why it’s called Sci Fi,” Mr. Brooks said. “It’s somewhat cooler and better than the name ‘Science Fiction.’ But even the name Sci Fi is limiting.”

Can't say I've watched the channel in awhile...noy because it 's so geeky & nerdy, but I really don't care for badly made Giant Alligator movies starring D-list actors. (or Snakes, or Dragons, or Sharks, or well, just insert an animal here). I think every cable channel has pretty much lost sight of what they are or should be. TV Land no longer shows just classic TV, Cartoon Network shows movies & live action stuff, etc.

Well yeah sci fi does suck now. And why in the hell does G4 play that show Cheaters ? What does that have to do with gaming?
I dont remember where exactly i read this it was some years ago but the reason old shows started dissappearing in sydication was the take off of DVDS , right holders to the shows thought if they are on the air people wont buy the DVD sets of the shows so alot of them were pulled. SO channels like SCi Fi lost alot of space and had to fill it , and unfortunatly it was filled with crap. Also people dont realize how much adverstisers have pulll in what these channels air. They have to sell commerical space to stay on the air.
