Damien, sorry to hear about your puppy. I think it's wonderful idea to rescue a dog.

The greatest thing a person can do is open their hearts in times of need. At least Mimi knew love and kindness and that speaks volumes!!! I too am sorry just the same.

I lived in Gent for 40 years!
Oddly enough, for 15 years I lived only streets away from Thomas, without knowing it. I now live about ten miles from Gent, so we're still "neighbours"!

You guys could have stood in the same toy store, or supermarket queue and never even known it. . . Don't you wear your museum T-Shirt Thomas?? (I think he is stalking you Thomas!).

I ran the F.A.C.T.S. SciFi convention for 11 years, which Meule attended for sure, so we must have seen each other.

                    Damien,

I'm very sorry to hear this. I've been through the loss of pets before (even had a kitten die, once) and I hate to even think about the devesation that you and your wife are feeling. Take care.

I know the feeling and am sorry about your loss. I also love dogs.

Dogs love unconditionally. They are color blind...literally and figuratively. Feed them, give them some water, and a few pats on the head a day and you have a friend for life.

When we had to make the tough decision to put down our retriever a few years ago after having her for 13 great years, I cried like a baby and never thought I would be so grief stricken over the loss of a dog but as others have said, they are like part of the family.

We have a new golden and actually got her a few months before our older one had to be put down but even today I sometimes make the mistake of calling her by my other dog's name...so even a few years later, her name is on the tip of my tongue.

If you haven't read the book "Marley and Me", I would highly recommend it. It is a great book about a guy and his dog and pretty much sums up the special relationship that a human being can have with "man's best friend".

You sound like a real dog lover. I would let the grief pass over and consider getting another dog from the pound or a reputable breeder. Make sure you know find a breed that suits your personality and lifestyle and be sure to read up on them so you understand a particular breeds typical characteristics.

My wife and I got a dog before we had kids and it was actually a good primer for us to be completely responsible for the well being of another creature besides ourselves and it was a great joy to have my kids grow up with a dog in the house.
"The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."
