Who cares if he has a lisp? Some say Christopher Reeve's voice was too weak for Superman. Toby Maguire's voice cracks like a 14 year-old boy in puberty, but he's Spider-Man. But yet both are considered, overall, perfect for the roles they play. If you aren't a voice actor (like Gary Owens) you probably don't have a perfect voice without some kind of "defect". Singling Bale out over something like this getting far too nitpicky I think.

As for the growly Batman voice, I don't really consider it much different than Kevin Conroy's treatment. Esp. early on. Go back and watch the first few BTAS episodes. Conroy's Batman voice is much huskier than it eventually evolved into. He probably figured out he couldn't keep it up like that for 100 plus episodes and toned it down.

I can't believe this stupid thread is still going...and You're right Chris..."Nitpicky" is what it is. This is a no win arguement, because it's a matter of personal opinion, and preference! But these two Guys don't care...they'll just keep at going forever, trying to get the last word in. It's like little Children saying to each other..."I'm a bigger Batman Fan then You are"! Rediculous!

First off, NONE of the stuff I complained about is nitpicky. Everything that bothers me about the movies are legitimate complaints about messing with the character.

Second, I NEVER implied that him having a lisp was a complaint on my part. I merely stated a fact that he has one. I could care less.

Third, I really don't care about getting a "last word in". My last post was not a complaint or a gripe or a poke. I mentioned 2 coworkers who know NOTHING about the debate going on here mentioned to me that his voice sounded strained and forced as Batman. I made NO mention of the debate going on here and in fact, I wasn't even involved in it because I haven't seen the movie and I have no comment on it.

Batdude, get over yourself would you? You put me on ignore, so ignore me already.

I just came back from seeing the movie a second time, and believe me I was listening closely for this alleged "lisp". I guess it depends on how you define the word. It isn't a lisp as in "lithp", inserting a "th" sound where an "s" should go; it's more a hiss as in "hisszz" or a slur as in "sszzlur". If the term "to lisp" carries the meaning of ANY sybillant mispronunciation, it's a lisp. But I don't think it does; I could be wrong, but I think a lisp is limited to the "th" transposition.

Anyway. He sounds cool either way.

I think you missed the part where darklord1967 and I decided to agree to disagree about the armor and other nitpicky matters of subjective opinion. I'm not arguing any particular point as just stating my opinions and observations. If you don't want to read the posts here, you're certainly entitled to skip over the whole thread. Why you should be so surprised that a movie this impactful, which just came out a week ago, is still being talked about is a puzzler.

Well, Batdude, clearly YOU are contributing to this "STUPID" thread being kept alive simply by posting messages within it.

You may be right in labeling this thread (and the debate contained therein) as "STUPID" (or unimportant), But I dare say most of the stuff discussed on this MEGO toys message board falls somewhat into that category. With some notable thread exceptions, we are NOT, after all, discussing the finer points of weightier subjects like politics, philosophy, religion, or reasonable soultions for global climate change.

No, here we discuss varying colors of miniature vinyl bat-capes, the merits of removable mask Robin versus painted mask Robin, and other matters of pressing urgency pertaining to silly toys that have been discontinued for over 25 years.

In either case no one ELSE here seems to think that this thread is so "STUPID" that it warranted the opposing opinions of certain posters be censored by placing them on ignore lists... opinions that were never disrespectful or rude towards you.

                That distinction belongs to you.

Furthermore, your wrath doesn't seem to be directed toward any of the other individuals who also continue to keep this debate alive with (eloquently stated) opinions that are similar to your own.

They too are equally responsible for keeping this "stupid" debate alive and / or "trying to get the last word in" as you said.

I suppose that I myself am one of the "two guys" that you refer to when you say that I do not care that this is an issue of "personal preference".

Nothing could be further from the truth. Look at the facts:

In the vehement expression of my own viewpoint on this, I have repeatedly stated how subjective this debate is and how it is clearly a matter of personal preference.

And once again, my own relaxing visits to the MEGO Museum message boards did not become so threatened by YOUR personal preference and viewpoint on this matter that I felt the need to place YOU on an ignore list.

In the final analysis, (speaking for myself) my debate contributions to this thread ended more than two days ago.

I have not had an interest in "getting the last word" or any such thing. New posts expressing new opinions continue to be contributed regardless of my meaningless participations.

But just as some have advised ME along the way, I will do so with you: Don't take this stuff so seriously. Take life a little easier, and have a little tolerance for ideas / viewpoints that are different than your own.

Who knows? It might even be fun.

The world would likely be a better place if we all didn't just shut out the opinions that we didn't like to hear. There's plenty of that already. In fact, most of the time, calling attention to an issue or two is a great way to steadily improve things for the better.

The excellent Dark knight film we are all enjoying this summer is at least partially possible because of a lot of debates (like this one) regarding the (arguably inferior) films that came before.

But if this thread and the debate contained therein is so offensive / irritating to your peaceful time here (as you stated), then perhaps your time would best be spent visiting another thread... rather than re-exposing yourself to a supreme irritant.

Just a friendly thought... one that sadly you will not see since I am on your ignore list.

I'm due for my second viewing on Sunday. Seems like forever.

                      Hmmm...

So much for the wisdom of ignore lists when trying to keep abreast of the latest developments around here.

                      You prove my point beautifully.

For the record, I was and am very grateful for darklord's and Raydeen's points of contention. I paid close attention to matters of body armor and voice delivery on my second viewing, and came away understanding the movie a little better. At the risk of continuing our debate (much lamented by other members), I noted that the first suit of kevlar armor only extended to a point above Batman's elbow, mid-way down the tricep. That is what allowed the dog to dig into his arm. Evidently he was not wearing the thin material, which darklord1967 has noted that canine units employ, underneath the kevlar. One may consider this a flaw in the film or simply a choice or oversight on Batman's part. When he replaces the first suit with the second suit, this weakness is actually intensified because the joints are even more exposed. I've already said my piece on the voice, so if darklord or Raydeen would like to continue our friendly disagreement, I'm up for it.

It works like this (in my opinion):
                            3 Keatons = 1 Bale
                            7 Wests = 1 Bale
                            250 Clooneys = 1 Bale
Bales are not measurable in Kilmers.

Clooney gets alot of flack, but that guy is a great actor and one hell of a director. His turn as Batman was ill-advised, but blame the lame-a** screenplay -- and Shumacher, and the producers -- for the abortion that was B&R. Clooney just did the job he was hired to do. He'd be fine as a Nolanesque, detective Batman a-la Bale.
