You might be referring to a show called "The Priviledged Planet".
Some scientists have even said that the rate at which the universe is expanding makes it possible for life to exist on our planet and calculated that anymore or any less would mess it up.
There are also some very credible scientists who have attempted to make calculations on the chances of intelligent life existing elsewhere in the universe and despite the vastness of the universe the chances are very remote. Of course, they make certain assumptions about what it would take to sustain life such as carbon, oxygen, water, correct atmospheric conditions, etc. It's really interesting stuff if you take the time to read up on it.

I seen a show once where some scientists said the Earth is a fluke in galactic terms...
The process of growing life is very delicate and all the right numbers must be in place for it to happen.
Distance from the nearest star ......
The presents of liquid water, etc ........
It is possible ........ WE are the example ...
But how often this perfect nature miracle occures is yet to be seen.Leave a comment:

There probably is Alien life throughout the universe. What would it look like tho? Even Carl Sagan once said in Cosmos that it was unlikely any alien life forms would resemble us. The history of our world contains so many incidents of one time catastrophes which changed life here I could see his point, ( the Diosaur killing asteroid, the formation of the Moon by Erath impacting with a Mars sized planetary body, etc.).
Are aliens flying in UFO's and visiting us? I think there is something to that possibility as well.Leave a comment:

The earth is such an almost infinitely small speck of the total universe. Even allowing that most is empty space, there are still so many planets. How could we be all there is?Leave a comment:

I believe that Heaven and Hell are differant planets and your sole travels there when your die....it's just what i think
I have seen a UFO when i was in the air force. I was guarding nukes and it flew over head about 6 months UFO's on TV. A whole town in Texas about 100 miles from where i was stationed saw a UFO the same night i saw mine.Leave a comment:

Fair enough!I know you are (well at least equally american)- I just couldn't think of any non-americans living in the US here on the board - but then I remembered you are the Purple Dude.

I have a sixty some year old neighbor that lives up the road from me. I think he is off his rocker but he claims he was abducted by aliens in the early 70s. He has all these scars that he claims where they "operated on him." Yeah, I know....
He has been featured in a handful of sci-fi books that really believed him. You can sit there and he will tell you a story that goes on for about an hour.
You never know...

I hope the religious aspect is not directed at me as I am just setting straight a fact that another member discussed as fiction and went no further than that."Starting" to look like a Trek convention----that ship has sailed----
---but not by fault of this thread.
Actually, here we have discussion about a phenomenon that's potentially real
and not a TV show-
--however, some are unnecessarily bringing religion into it---mockingly, I
may add ---which is what we frown upon on the boards. Please try to refrain
from your cheap shots.
Moving on...
I would like to address darklords' feelings that other alien species
might be "noble" instead of "barbaric"---I find it hard to believe that any race
from anywhere would take all it's time and resources to come here
only to "learn"---we will indeed have some resource they need or can use---
that's enough to spark a problem that will devolve into something that can
never be put back to rights.
It is inevitable that friction will cause war between a visiting race and ours
either from the moment they arrive---intentional and bloody---or some
undercurrent dilemma that develops over time.
There may be some way, way advanced psychological way of avoiding it--
for an advanced alien species---I'll count that as a slight possibility
but (not to put humans down or anything)---we, ourselves, are just not that
evolved.
----the BEST that can happen is that visiting aliens are super-intelligent,
predict this typical behavior---and at the first sign of friction abandon Earth
so as to avoid any problems.
That'd be funny.
"Hey where are you guys going?"
"WE'RE LEAVING. YOU GUYS ARE NUTS AND WE DON'T WANT ANY TROUBLE."

I still think Hugh Grant's success is proof of alien tampering.
It just cannot be explained...Leave a comment:
