It just occurred to me that a lot of CARLIN'S material was religious
and political in nature. I am mentioning this as a "pre-emptive strike"
against things getting out of hand on this thread as far as
"illegal" subject matter here on the Mego boards.

All I will say is that political/religious views aside---I thought he was
a great speaker---a real talent at communicating ideas and making his
audience think deeper about pivotal subjects....and, of course, seeing
the humorous side of our shortcomings.

One of my all time favorite stand ups (he was great in the Bill & Ted movies too)...I'm so sad...but I knew it was coming...he had a lot of problems with his ticker.

RIP old man, you were one funny mofo.

NO WAY! I love Gearge Carlin.

My mom had his records and 8 tracks in the early 70's. My brother and I used to sneak them and listen to them. I loved "The 7 Words You Can't Say On Television" and "Wonderful WINO".

              RIP George.

someone just posted this on another forum
...it's clean of profanity and doesn't have to do with any "no no" subjects here
----and it really cracked me up!
(I never heard him say it...but I can just picture him in his voice saying this!)

“The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said
to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not
close enough to get the job done.”

Celebrity deaths, especially older ones with health problems, usually don't bother me too much, beyond taking a moment to reflect on their accomplishments. This one hits me in the throat. Besides being frickin' hilarious, he was truly one of those people I felt "spoke the truth" even when it wasn't my truth he was speaking (which wasn't often). Even as recently as his last HBO special I found myself laughing throughout and being challenged and inspired by his rhetoric.

You will be missed Mr. Carlin. For your sake I hope God has a good sense of humor.

I had the pleasure of seeing him live once. I agree with Hulk about how he seemed to be one of the few who spoke the truth. We'll all miss him. RIP

Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
                        Lo they do call me.

All I can say is that GC is NOT dead. He is immortal and will live on forever!

I have been stealing from him for years! I have used his EUPHEMISMS bit in my college classes for more than 7 years now. What a freakin' genius this guy is (not was!).
