Being in early grade school back in '72,'73 my older brother always had the albums. 'Course when I listened to them, I alway racked up great material for the school playground. Not necessarily the '7 Words', but everything else was gem stuff (rip from the best I always said..). He definitely hit his stride in the '70s, even when he resorted to appearing regularly on the 'Tony Orlando and Dawn' show. Of COURSE, I'm in Milwaukee where he had is famous arrest for using his '7 Words' material on stage here at Summerfest.

He lost popularity in the '80s/'90s, along with pubs like National Lampoon, but he still had his key insight into issues, taking more the form of a elder satirist than making best-selling albums. He took it all in stride and made his contribution to the end. Sleep well, Mr. Carlin.
    Peace.. Through Superior Firepower.

One of my fave personalities of George's was the Hippy Dippy Weather Man on Flip Wilson. I remember my friend Derek had one of his comedy albums too. RIP George.

That's so hard to believe! He was still very funny and very productive. It's a real loss because he still had plenty to say. Darn it. One of the greats. I loved his HBO specials when I was a kid.

As a kid I got to watch alot of things that kids my age probably shouldn't have been watching. I had Carlin's list of objectionable words memorizeds at one point. Not the seven. Not even the three add ons. We're talking the complete list from 1984's Carlin at Carnegie. And while this was hilarious to a 13 year old kid, what I didn't realize was how much Carlin's views and opinions of the world were shaping my own.

There are jews in the world there are buddhists. There are hindus and mormons and then...
there are those that follow Muhammed. But I've never been one of them...
I have been and ever shall be a Carlinist.
Of all the souls I have encountered his was the most...human.

What was Carlin's original 7 dirty words ?

I can only remember a few (the Museum word filter will probably filter most of them )

I loved Carlin. I think I appreciated his humor even more the older I got. I loved his last HBO special. He will be missed.

My wife (who never saw or heard any Carlin -- unbelievable!!) and I just spent a half hour watching some of his funniest routines -- the "7 words" from 1978, and the "Invisible Man Living in the Sky" from last year. I grew up laughing at this guy till my eyes watered. He's a hero and an inspiration to me, and I've no doubt his spirit and memory will live on through his videos, books and records for years and years.

This hits me hard. I have seen him live 4 times. Just saw him less than a year ago. He actually looked as good as he ever has. Fortunately the Foxwoods casino brought him in every year for the last 3 years and I was fortunate to be able to get comp tickets every time. I had seen him once a few years before that also. My dad was a huge Carlin fan and I have listened to him since before I probably should have been allowed to. A framed copy of his "Class Clown" album adorns the wall in my family room. That is the album that originated the "7 words you can't say on television". It didn't matter wether you agreed or disagreed with his views, he still made you laugh. He will be sorely missed by many and me especially. I feel fortunate to have been able to see him as often as I did. R.I.P.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.
