^^^ I think that holds true for DD then, too. No one really knew him from a hole in the ground before the movie unless they were a comic geek.

I'm a comic geek but only collect golden, silver and bronze age stuff. I had never heard of Hellboy before the movie but I sure knew of DD. This is just me of course but I'm sure there were a few others.

          That's not gonna happen.

First of all, he's not an established actor with experience.

You see why Iron Man worked?

Because of Robert Downey, that's why.

Second, Triple H is too old and too bloody ugly (I'm sorry, but he looks like a Neanderthal). The script calls for a Thor in his 20s with Greek god-looks.

Triple H will be a no go.

Previous to the first movie, if you didn't read comics, you didn't know who the heck was Hellboy.

I barely knew who he was, and I used to collect comics.

All I have to add is that I sure hope they do a great job with Captain America, whatever era it's in. I love Cap and have been hoping to see a great movie about him, for years.

ok not really. I knew as I was typing the words somebody would respond to that, just didn't think I'd get the crazy googly eye treatment lol.
I didn't know Hellboy was a comic until much later, AFTER I had seen the movie. I could have used Watchmen as an example, a comic NOBODY has heard of (There I inserted googly eyes for t-bolt).
I don't think people will be lining up based on the name alone, but hopefully it will look cool enough that the regular ol' ma and pops out there will wanna go, that's how the studios make money, not from the built in fanboy base.

What happened to Iron Fist, Wolverine, Black Panther and Namor? I had heard all of these were at some stage of production. I would love to see HHH as Thor, because I'm a fan of his, but I agree that he's not a big enough name.

Where as I used to collect mostly independent comics (except for Batman, obscure golden age stuff and anything Bernie Wrightson)and was a Hellboy FAN. I was in line early and often (saw it a few times at the theater). However I am shaky on Marvel comics and only know stuff from when I was a kid. Had to have my son explain to me the difference between the "ultimate" and regular versions of characters (as apparently the Marvel movies are closer to ultimate than not). I have since tried to bone up on my Marvel knowledge BECAUSE of the movies.

I don't know the difference between "Ultimate" and "regular" versions, can you explain? I don't think I had ever read an Iron Man comic before the movie , but would like to now because of the movie, I just read Hellboy "seeds of destruction" and I am very excited for "Golden Army", Del Toro is an amazing director, but in the hands of somebody else Hellboy coulda been Van Helsing. I think the CAP and Thor movies could be either great or could be flops, just depends on who makes it. If a hack like Brett Ratner makes it, it'll suck. If somebody like del Toro, Raimi, or Nolan make it, it'll be great.

                          Wolverine is definitely happening.

I liked DD as well...and the "Directors Cut" even better...it's a more fleshed out Film. My biggest complaint was...They tried to cram to big of a storyline(the Frank Miller/Electra Saga)into a 90 minute Movie(and should have got an Actress, that at least LOOKED Greek to play Electra). The longer version is MUCH better. And I liked Afffleck as DD.

Sweet Christmas! I was looking forward to Luke Cage, Powerman but really hated the idea Tyrese Gibson was supposed to play him. He's just too small.
