LOVE Waffle House, and probably fetishize it a bit because of nostalgia and the fact that it's so hard for me to get to one.
When I was a kid my family would drive to Florida every year and Waffle House was one of the most dependable roadside stops for a meal - there's probably more options now, but I haven't done that road trip in years. Super friendly southern staff was part of the exotic appeal to me as a kid too - people saying "y'all" and calling us "hon", just like on TV, but also the look and feel of the place. They all had formica tables and juke boxes WAAAY after these were normal things to see for the time.
I agree with people who mentioned the different quality levels at different locations. From my memory the best ones were in the Carolinas and Georgia. Again, could be my sense of nostalgia messing with my memory, but fresh pecan waffles in Georgia tasted SOOO GOOD.
Personally, I never cared for IHOP. Massive cheap piles of sugary dough - it never excited me.Comment

We have Mexican restaurants here, but I do doubt a true Mexican would find them satisfactory.
We tried all kinds of food on our trip, as long as it's freshly made and doesn't sit in your stomach like a brick. We're not big fans of grease and large amounts of meat.
On a side note, my wife and I are still looking to move out of Belgium to a warmer climate, and Mexico is still on the short list....

The round waffles look like the real thing, those look really good.
The ones covered in whipped cream and chocolate sauce, is what we would call a "sugar waffle" here, and are a lot heavier. You'll only eat one of those.
The fluffy and crunchy kind, we traditionally call a "Brussels waffle".
Hey, your sister must know my neck of the woods quite well, then. Cool!
First, that waffle looks amazing, yum.
Second...I guarantee you'll find authentic Belgian waffles in San Francisco...which as the most world class restaurants per capita in the USA.
If you ever visit this part of the country...I recommend you use the Yelp website...and type in best Belgian waffles...you will find ratings, opinions from customers, and directions to get there:
People use Yelp to search for everything from the city's tastiest burger to the most renowned cardiologist. What will you uncover in your neighborhood?
Article on best Belgian waffles in San Francisco:
Picture of waffles from one of those eateries:
Of course, Belgium is still the master of waffles...I google some pictures, and man...you guys know your waffles...
You still got us beat...
...and dude, I don't know if you have tried Mexican food...but Northern California has some great Mexican food. Other cities and states...Los Angeles, Chicago...and anywhere in Texas, lol. Don't be afraid of Mexico, yes, many parts are not recommended due to drug cartels, but they are mostly at the borders. Mexico City is pretty awesome, I think you'll like it. And obviously, lots of great beach resorts.
You guys have Mexican restaurants in Belgium?
BTW, my sister has traveled to Belgium, she loves it...she actually went to college for a year to Aix-en-Provence...and would travel with her friend to Brussels by train...about a 7 hour trip. She speaks fluent French, has actually a Masters in French, her favorite language (she speaks five languages)..

A much smaller city, but nearby...is San Miguel de Allende...76.8km from each other...
I think those two would be right up your alley...lots of foreigners live there as well...

Denny's, on the other hand, their new pancakes are awesome!!!
Waffle House is one of those places I never stop at. I did years ago, but my stomach just can't handle that much grease nowadays.
