Btw, what is being sold as "belgian waffles" in the US is nothing like the real deal here.
My wife and I were shaking our heads when we were over at your end of the ocean, and wanted to try them.
It's supposed be superlight, crunchy, with just a sprinkling of powdered sugar. When done right, I can eat a dozen of these and still want more.
I prefer IHOP to Waffle House myself, but like I said before, Waffle House is okay if you hit one that has a competent kitchen staff. If not you can get half cooked waffles with the batter still running on the plate and burnt bacon that cuts your tongue when you try to eat it it's so overcooked (which is what I got at the one I deemed terrible).

There are no less than 23 Waffle House diners within a 40 mile radius of my house. How often have I eaten at any one of them on the past 20 years? About 5 times. There area many better options in the world than this place and I have almost always chosen "other."
If I had only spent a tenth of the time studying Physics that I spent learning Star Wars and Baseball trivia, I would have won the Nobel Prize.
when I saw this thread, I couldn’t believe it wasnt started by austin lol.
Actually, I have never eaten at one...just really never came up.
I will someday..
Traveling and playing music, Waffle Houses became a staple. It was the only thing open at midnight off the interstate. Funny thing about Waffle House is that it's almost two different restaurants. Go in the morning and you'll see families, blue collar and professionals on the way to work. That's when the best staff is online. Late at night, comepletely different clientele. Mos Eisley Cantina....

Are you mad, man?
If I go to Belgium, the last thing I'd want is a bloody hamburger or hot dogs, lol. I'll eat your cuisine.
If you ever come here again, don't seek so called Belgium stuff...hit our BBQ's...Kansas City ribs, Texas brisket...our burger joints (and I don't mean burger chains)...New York/New Jersey pizza...Boston lobster, San Francisco king crab...Mexican and Tex Mex foods...Southern fried chicken...Louisiana Cajun foods...you know, what we do well here...it's the whole point of the trip...

I was waiting for one of our resident Belgians to school us on waffles. That looks and sounds delicious!
We saw "Belgian waffles" on American menus, and wanted to "test" them.
We ate a lot of great (American) food on our trip, but these didn't pass the inspection. Definitely not "Belgian".

First, that waffle looks amazing, yum.
Second...I guarantee you'll find authentic Belgian waffles in San Francisco...which as the most world class restaurants per capita in the USA.
If you ever visit this part of the country...I recommend you use the Yelp website...and type in best Belgian waffles...you will find ratings, opinions from customers, and directions to get there:
People use Yelp to search for everything from the city's tastiest burger to the most renowned cardiologist. What will you uncover in your neighborhood?
Of course, Belgium is still the master of waffles...I google some pictures, and man...you guys know your waffles...
You still got us beat...
...and dude, I don't know if you have tried Mexican food...but Northern California has some great Mexican food. Other cities and states...Los Angeles, Chicago...and anywhere in Texas, lol. Don't be afraid of Mexico, yes, many parts are not recommended due to drug cartels, but they are mostly at the borders. Mexico City is pretty awesome, I think you'll like it. And obviously, lots of great beach resorts.
You guys have Mexican restaurants in Belgium?
BTW, my sister has traveled to Belgium, she loves it...she actually went to college for a year to Aix-en-Provence...and would travel with her friend to Brussels by train...about a 7 hour trip. She speaks fluent French, has actually a Masters in French, her favorite language (she speaks five languages).
