Any song performed by Celine Dion; "Su su sudio" - Phil Collins; "MMMBop"; and "Let's Hear It For The Boy" have to be up there, as well, too many to list really."Steel-like jaws clacked away, each bite slashing flesh from my body - I used my knife and my hands, and when they were gone, my bloody stumps - and yet the turtles came."Comment

Any popular rap songs with very few exceptions. Eminem has some good songs but artists like Ludacris are horrible in my opinion.
But one of the worst songs of all time is "The Girl is Mine" by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney. I even like some of Michael Jackson's Music even after he became whacko Jacko but Paul McCartney to be a part of this piece of garbage.....unbearable."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

Anything by Bijork.
That woman's voice and music are like friggin' finger nails across a blackboard to me!
My wife LOVES that crap. Anytime she plays it, I start lookin' for a gun to place in my mouth...I... am an action figure customizerComment

I'm going to anger a lot of Beatles fans, but much of Paul McCartney's 70s/80s output is pure crap to me. It grates on my soul. I've mentioned my hatred for "Wonderful Christmas Time" here before. "Silly Little Love Song" isn't far behind it.
"Smooth" by Santana and Rob Thomas will make me almost wreck my car to change it. It's not so much the song, but the overplaying of it. "How Far is Heaven" by...their name escapes me...also falls into that overplayed catergory.

Second of all, Bjork is not what I'd call popular. This profile is no longer active.Comment

"Ring My Bell" is rather rotten song, I agree. So much of the disco era stuff is just so bad though. We could do an entire thread about bad disco songs, lol!
Bjork (and her old band The Sugarcubes) are definitely a love it or hate it thing, I believe. I tend to enjoy quite a bit of it, but I can see how it can grate on some people's nerves.
Another popular song I can't stand is "Lido Shuffle" by Boz Scaggs. That chorus really annoys me!Comment

Uh, no I'm not. Not not not. Bijork makes noise pollution (pure and simple), and sounds like a female cat in heat. For me, it is a particularly heinous form of torture to listen to that dame for anything longer than about 10 seconds. Just the sound of her voice / music does terrible, terrible things to my nervous system, and inspires violent thoughts.
Yes... well... thank God for that. And you know, I would think there's probably a good reason for why she's not popular.
Speaking for myself, I don't think I could survive for very long in a world where Bijork's insipid droning were popularly and repeatedly coming through the radiowaves and jukeboxes of our society on a regular basis.
I know that among her fans, she's hailed as some kind of friggin' "genius" or "musical visionary". I've always asked why, and can NEVER get a straight answer... not even from her fans. Could it be because she pioneered the most expansive use of blatant disregard for ALL musical conventions in her work? Gimme a break! Being artistically "weird" doesn't make you a "genius" or an "innovator". Sometimes it just makes you... weird.
Besides, I've never really prescribed to the "high-brow" notion that just because something is popular, slick, well-crafted, and has general appeal, that it MUST be crap. Some of the finest, most classic artistic works (film, music, painting, sculpture, etc.) fit those descriptions.
To me, much of this snooty appreciation for the "artistically baroque" and "avante garde" is nothing more than a grand example of "the emperor's clothes" syndrome that seems to be taking hold in our culture... a celebration of mediocrity orchestrated by slackers with no real traditional talent for anything.
There's a lot of artsy-fartsy nonsense going on out there in the arts world... and a lot of it is this "new age" / "alternative music" garbage with no traditional presentation of rhythm, melodies, harmonies, or orchestrated arrangements... NOTHING!
Good grief, what happened to pitch? Intonnation? Musical precision?
It went out the window with a lot of this new stuff that's being recorded today, that's where. It's all just a collection of mis-matched, dischordant, clashing sounds puked forth upon a studio recorder or an audience by some bands or so-called "artists".
Yup... to me, that describes Bijork and her "work" to a tee.
In short, Bijork's music is the ultimate in hideous crap... from my "certain point of view" , as Obi-Wan Kenobi once might have said.
Okay, I'll get off my soap box now.Last edited by darklord1967; May 3, '08, 3:05 PM.I... am an action figure customizerComment

I like the Cubes, haven't really followed Bjork's solo stuff much. They are much better and more original than most of the "alternative" stuff that the music industry is pushing now like My Chemical Romance or Fallout Boy.You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

We Built this City by Starship "who drives the wrecking balls into our guitars?" Uggh
Pretty much any song written and recorded that really tells us that the writer/artist has NOTHING important to say, such as:
Good Stuff by the B52s
Lovin Every Minute of It by Loverboy
and the list can go on forever.
Please add to it if you will.Check out ALL my customs at https://www.facebook.com/megowgshcustomsComment

I like Bjork's voice, sometimes it can be a bit much but in general I enjoy it. I don't think her music is always that unconventional, actually. The Sugarcubes combined quirky new-wave catchy pop tunes with some odd touches that worked well sometimes, and sometimes not. I don't view her as a musical genius or anything, but like I said, different strokes for different folks and all that. Bob Dylan is regarded as a musical legend and yet many people will argue that the man cannot sing and think alot of his music is banal. I like Dylan but I'm just using an example. It's all subjective anyhow.
I guess deeming what is "popular" can be somewhat subjective as well, but I'd say Bjork having sold millions of albums worldwide and being fairly recognisable to the public at large would constitute being "popular" really?
Good call on "We Built This City", Austin! But I actually kinda like "Lovin' Every Minute Of It", haha!Comment
