I think the black sambuca was the problem. Ick, I hate black licorice flavor..

But All Dressed chips are fantastic, they aren't Ruffles' best selling flavor in Canada for nothing!

I loved Wig Wag as a kid, it had this wonderful illusion you were getting more for your money.
Whoa, I had completely forgotten about Wig Wag until this thread!

How about those infamous flavors of Hostess potato chips that were very briefly test marketed in Canada around 1978, that few remember and those that actually tried them wished they could forget: orange, grape and cherry flavored chips. From all accounts they were terrible, and someone at Hostess probably ended up getting fired.

The worst flavor I ever tried was when Hostess (I think) test marketed Caesar Salad flavored chips in the early 90s. In theory it sounded like it might be good, but they were terrible!

I never saw Cherry but Grape and Orange just sat there as we all went "have you tried it?" but we were all too afraid....

I vividly remember trying Hostess Orange flavoured chips. Once. Never again.

In the United States, it's funny to think of Hostess making potato chips.

I am guessing they all stained tongues like unmixed Koolaid powder! Haha

Ha, probably. I've heard the orange chips described as looking like chips sprinkled with Tang powder. I personally never saw the orange/cherry/grape chips when I was a kid, but a friend of mine was always telling me about them and I thought he was full of crap and making it up. Years later, the internet proved him right.

I see them in a local foreign food store here in Missouri run by an Arab guy. He has Kinder eggs and a lot of other stuff from the UK (like Yorkies, which are "not for girls" for some reason), but it's almost all past the expiration date.

I remember some women's groups got all up in arms over that advertising campaign.

Ah, controversy! In the late 70s, one summer, a milk drink was advertised as "Super 2, Malt Flavoured Milk" in chocolate, banana, strawberry (& another flavour, I can not recall from the jingle in my head..maybe vanilla). I can not find sources online, but it 'may' have been a Brookfield or a MacKay product. Apparently, the commercial had this catchy theme song, but from recollection, may have advertised too much teen-aged unclothed skin at the beach; thus, caused some complaints that halted the public tv commercials (& the milk drink did not last long on the market). I really loved that Banana flavour, though!

and I swear Hostess did a pizza flavoured chip back in the 80's that was really good but I cant find any evidence for it, I know pringles did/does one, but this was years before.

Yep, Hostess did make pizza flavoured chips, I think around the same time they made roast chicken flavoured chips. Both were pretty decent tasting.

No offense to our American friends, but after years of sampling snacks on both sides of the border, I think Canada has the advantage, but there is one US only snack that I buy whenever I'm at a US grocery store:

These things are nice and spicy and addictive. Plus they feature everyone's favorite wife-beating comic strip character.
