You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie Banks -

Well...I've read "Ceaser and Christ", by Wil Durant....and the only thing made up in "Gladitor"...was the character of Maximus...and the fact the the Romans never actually defeated the Germanians. The rest of the Characters were pulled from History. One Critic stated, that it was rediculous the a Ceaser would actually fight in the Gladitor Arena...but in fact, the REAL Komodus did enjoy fighting in the Games.
But who cares if they moved History around a little bit to tell a story...it was a GREAT Movie!!sigpicComment

I don't think 2001 should have been included either but I guess what they are really saying is things didn't turn out like we expected. We have a space station but it is not the exciting, rotating, wheel in space like the film had. We have a space shuttle but not the reliable hypersonic space plane like the Orion clipper. Space travel is mostly for astronauts and not commercial passangers like many think it should be by now. We haven't sent people to Jupiter but if the moon Europa has oceans under the ice we might send people there to check it out. NASA does have plans on the table to send astronuats to survey Earth orbit crossing comets and asteroids. This was proposed in Arthur C. Clarke's third book in the series: 2063.
Mike, JFK is not meant to be history but theory. Think of it like a murder mystery. There are many theories regarding the Kennedy assasination. This film is just the one favored by Oliver Stone. Only a small percentage of the American people think Oswald acted alone because there seems to be too many inconsitencies in the Warren Commission Report; mainly the Magic Bullet Theory.
I'm surprised these films were not included as critics have cited them as being glaringly inaccurate and having oblvious gaffs:
Mississippi Burning
The Insider
Pearl Harbor, starring Ben Affleck.Comment

I don't mind inaccurate movies when they are made purely as entertainment as in something like "Master and Commander"or even "300" which was based on Frank Miller's take on the battle rather than a historically correct rendition. Artistic lisence is fine as long as they don't change the facts too much, but when they are deliberately showing a historical event and get it wrong it really bugs me.
How about ...
U 571
Marie Antoinette
Sands of Iwo Jima
First Knight
Robin Hood :Prince of Thieves
Titanic

If 2001 is on the list, shouldn't the movie version of 1984 be there too?Hey! Where's the waiter with the water for my daughter?

What really bugs me is when kids fall for the "hollywood" history and believe what they've seen is fact rather than learning proper history in school.

So that battle in Gladiator could've been one of those successes.
However after the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest (were three Roman legions were crushed)...Rome abandoned all further attempts to conquer Germania.sigpicComment

That's OK because if they watch the film instead of studying the real history they'll just fail the test at school. That'll learn 'em!Comment
