I loved fried bologna as a kid, with cheese melted on top. I can't eat that stuff now, I can't help but thinking it's just "junk" meat....

The only sub (as my fellow Canadian friends above call them) I really like is a good Buffalo chicken finger sub, a Western NY specialty, mmmm!

If you still like the flavor of bologna, but want to eliminate the "junk" factor...try mortadella...the highbrow version of bologna...pretty darn good.

Fried plain bolonie sandwiches are yummy.

They are slightly similar to what we have here in the northeast called Taylor Ham or Pork Roll

It basically tastes like fried bolonie but more baconee

I used to get boloney cut thick at the deli and grill it. It gets crispy on the edges like a hot dog and then melt a slice of colby on it serve on toast. I haven't done that in a good long while...

Try a slice of tomato on those fried bologna sandwiches with mayo and mustard.

Love tomatoes...I eat them by themselves, with just a pinch of sea salt.

This, we used to get one from Chicago called Proski or Prasky (both spellings are used), it was the best meat ever fried. Nothing like it in Florida.

Don't get me started with why Polish sausages (any variety) is the best in the world

We had a chain in Seattle called Hoagie's Corner, similar to a 7-11..they had a Cheesy British that they warmed up. Oh man. So good.

if you've had a phiily style hoagie you'll know the difference. one thing is the roll (sft crust Italian roll), how it's sliced (with the spine intact) olive oil, pepper oregano, cappicola, provolone, bologna, sweet peppers, ground black pepper, shreaded lettice and onion.

while both are technically submarine sandwiches the taste is totally different,

knda like if you get a "Philly" cheesesteak anywhere else they just don't taste the same unless the cook is from here and know how to make right

I'd say that an Italian hoagie should not have bologna. I'm used to ham, cap, salami & prosciut (usually any 3 of those 4) plus provolone. However, an American hoagie can have bologna instead of the cap & prosciut, and may have white American cheese instead of provolone.

I think bologna is just like hot dogs--it's possible to get very good types (all-beef, well-seasoned) or cheaper, less tasty kinds.

The taste/texture of some chicken/pork bologna/hot-dogs really puts me off.
