I think if you get the stuff from the deli counter like say Boar's Head over what you get packaged like Oscar Meyer makes a difference too.

It's a Hoagie in the East Coast and a Submarine in the West Coast, but it's the same style sandwich described by Random Axe. Personally, I would substitute the baloney for prosciutto. This thread is making me very hungry.
You are transparent; I see many things... I see plans within plans.

while both are technically submarine sandwiches the taste is totally different,

knda like if you get a "Philly" cheesesteak anywhere else they just don't taste the same unless the cook is from here and know how to make right
This ^^^^^ times like a bajillion. Spent 2 years at boarding school outside Philly. GREAT sandwich area. I can't find much around here that measures up to the Philly version, although there's a place about 10 miles away run by some ex-Philly folks that gets just about everything right with the cheesesteak, except for the bread. There's just something about the water out East that makes the bread taste different. And, in my opinion, it's the oil and spices along with the bread that really nail the hoagie.

            No pork for me.
I am more than machine. More than man. More than a fusion of the two.

Same problem in central Ohio. The Jersey Mike's stores here do OK with everything but the bread.

Primo's in Philly does a sharp Italian using sharp provolone and a sesame seed roll. Top notch.
