sorry about that, sucks if it was turned out like that because it was getting old or sick instead of the owner taking care of it.

You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie Banks -
I won't hazard a guess to the circumstances, but thank goodness he had you guys to take him in and give him warmth, comfort, and love. It's all good!Comment

Nooooo!!!! First Merle from the Walking Dead and now this! He looked so happy and healthy in the photos. So long ya crazy little fur ball. You were the best. Even your photos bring us joy.If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.Comment

I'm so glad you we able to do this for Merril. You guys made the end of his life comfortable and filled it with love and kindness.
We had two similar situations, early this year, with two cats (Wilson and Lucy). Wilson was a Tuxedo cat who had been dumped around Christmas 2012. She turned out to be very sick and had to be put to sleep after we took care of her for around three weeks. The vet believed that she had been dumped by her owners when she became sick. It also turned out that most of her teeth had been removed, at some point, but not because they were bad/rotten teeth. We had no idea about this, until we were, finally, able to get her to the vet. I wish we had taken her sooner. She was so sweet. We just didn't realize how sick she was. We had to put her to sleep that same day. Lucy was a stray who we feed and took care of for about 4 years. We tried to "get" her a few years ago, but just ended up spooking her for a short time. Lucy had always been chubby, until early in the year when she suddenly lost a lot of weight. It turned out that her liver had failed. She was 5 years old, according to the vet and was also put to sleep upon her first visit, most unfortunately. The vet also estimated Wilson to have been around 5 years old. Both cats came to us as they suddenly appeared at our back window, and from there, we began taking care of them.
Anyway, you and your family really did a great thing for Merril. He chose some very good people to help him.
Goodbye, Merril.

Thanks so much Ian, Shame about your 2 that you had found. Megos and a fondness for found pets seem to go hand and hand.Comment
