I used to walk to a Ben Franklin store in Moorhead, Minnesota as a kid. I got several cool toys there. There was also a Kay Bee Toys in nearby Fargo, ND were I found boxed Megos and later Micronauts. I also remember finding Micronaut figures at a nearby drug store.

Well, it's a toss-up between Woolworth's at Halloween, and the local toy store called Stationery's in NYC. I remember many afternoons drooling over the toys in the window, (ala Christmas Story)."Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."Comment

A childhood toy store that none of you know, but I treasure its memory.
None of the toy stores in my town sold Mego Star Trek aliens.
Once a year, my Grandma took the whole family to the seaside, where was Bazar Teddy.
They had Trek aliens, and I could buy one each visit.
Man, that store was magic to me!!!!
It took me four years to get series two!
Luckily, they didn't sell well....

Alexander's. They had EVERYTHING! A solid runner-up was local store called the Toy & Sports Warehouse. Always had a great selection of Mego Star Wars and I even remember buying a Remco Wolfman there.Comment

I never forget I had some of Star Wars figures with playsets since Christmas, 1977 till 1984....
I'm the original owner of one Orange snake Yoda, ANH MIB Land Speeder, X-wing Fighter, Tie Fighter and Farm Luke that I kept them 37 years!!!
I should keep the rest of Star Wars toys, T-2 Sider-man with Spider-car, WSH Batman figures with Batcave playset, Batchopter and Batmobile, I wish I go back X-Mas, 1976 and tell my mother to keep them for me till I grew up......Comment

Something I forgot to mention about the Ames and Jamesway. Ames was attached to Grand Union. There was this little corridor type deal in the middle that had gumball machines and various arcade games. Jamesway was the same but attached to Price Chopper. When you're a kid you don't mind going food shopping with the folks because you knew you'd get to go to one of the other stores.Comment

There are so many I miss terribly...I grew up out in the country, and on Friday nights we'd head to the "big city" to eat out and do the weekly grocery shopping and such. Hills, Nichols, Woolworths...I really miss those, but in our tiny hometown there was really only one store, Ben Franklin. I used to buy comics there...I'd get those bagged Marvel three-packs. Man how I loved those things! I also remember getting some Corgi Marvel and DC die-cast there, as well as Mego pocket heroes.
I also remember the very day I walked in there and saw Amazing Spider-Man #252 with the new black costume sitting on the comic rack.
That was an earth-shattering event.Comment

Uncle Happy's! It was a combination toy/hobby store.
It was gone before I was old enough to visit regularly. They had awesome stuff.Comment
