Famous Restaurants That Have Disappeared

Back in the late 70s-early 80s we had a Weiner King right beside of a Burger King, they had the best hamburgers in town. Popeyes just opened it's first place in our area this past Tues. Hardees/ Red Burrito is all around here. They have the worst Mexican food you can ever imagine. Other old favorites here that no longer exist are Henny Penny's ( better chicken than KFC by far) and The Dutch Maid. There used to be a Bonanza in Kingsport, TN a few miles away about 3 years ago.

Another that came to mind...Sizzler. It was so popular at one point it had it's own catch phrase whenever something good happened (We goin' Sizzler!) We also had a place around here in the early 80's called Buckston's. I'm not sure if they were all over but I have fond memories of that place. Also did anyone have a K-mart with a restaurant in the back? Like it was actually just part of K-mart just like Target has their little food station or Walmart has Subways or Mcdonalds in them only this place was basically the K-Mart Diner. We used to go for breakfast and around the holidays Santa would show up.

Cheeseburger In Paradise all closed up recently. (Thank god!) and there was this place called the Boulder Creek Steak House that opened next to an 18plex movie theater (and was the only place to eat in the parking lot) and was so terrible they went out.

In a few years Perkins, Friendlies, and Boston Market would probably make it on this list.

Our Burger Chef closed and a Hardees opened up in it's place about 1981 or 82. I could use me some Burger Chef for lunch. mmmm...

Yea, Hardees is all over the South. And we have Popeys here too, although I've only actually eaten there once.

I just ate at a Ponderosa in Orlando during MegaCon last March.

Two restaurants we don't have here in town is Long John Silvers and Denny's. We used to have both, but one day they all just left.

I do remember Burger Chef. The building is still standing here but it's an applicance store now.

Hardees is still here in PA but not in Lebanon the closest one for me is Myerstown.

It's funny how some chains pull out of areas. All the Popeye's closed up in my neck of the woods a few years back.

Burger Chef, Red Barn- two VERY missed places!

We had a Mister Donut when I was a kid, it became a Donut Connection then disappeared. Same with Sambos, which became Dennys (truly one of the blandest, worst places to eat in America!). Our Showbiz Pizza became a Chuck E Cheese. And Pondersosa folded.

We still have a Bonanza about 15 miles from here, but I haven't gone there in years.

Here in KY, I remember a burger place called Burger Queen... had a Ronald McDonald-type character known as Queenie Bee. a lady dressed up like a bee. It was later replaced by Druthers.

Yes! Same here. I don't remember much about Burger Queen...but I remember that Bee on the sign. Druther's had Andy Dandy kids meals. Since we had no McDonald's in town back then, it was a treat to get a box with games and cartoon graphics on it. Don't recall if they had toys in them or not. Before it left town Druther's got REALLY nasty and unclean. I think the Health Dept. shut it down before it closed up all together.
