Bringing this thread back to the top as the family and I visited the Lake Placid area. One of the only two HoJo's still in existence.

I dont remember for sure but i remember they sold cotton candy. It may have been stacked like a giant wall or tree of cotton candy.
But they also sold helium balloons,so maybe they combined the two and had helium filled bags of cotton candy floating around.
Funny! I actually found the recipe for these the other day when i did a search. They are from former employees that used to make these.I'm going to try it and see if they taste like i remember. The picture shown is not what i remember(those look more like hamburger buns),but the recipe calls for submarine buns and thats what i remember them being made with.http://www.food.com/recipe/kmart-sub...he-past-301815Originally posted by megoknightI know they were fantastic. A few years ago I went into a kmart thinking for some reason I could still get them. They looked at me like my time machine had just landed.Last edited by piecemaker; Aug 5, '13, 7:10 PM.Leave a comment:

K-mart's usually had a side door to their diner so you didn't have to go into the storeLeave a comment:

Yeah the old K Mart diner were great!!!! Kind of cafeteria style but you could also order stuff. A little off topic but anyone remember the Karmelkorn shops in the malls??? Man they had the best butter popcorn, way unhealthy but so good and the best pineapple-orange drinks!!!!!Leave a comment:

I remember KMart had two versions of their dinner. One was the one that you would walk into to eat. The second version was usually up front with a small counter.Leave a comment:

This is a bit off topic, but does anyone remember the Cotton Candy in these stores, like Kmart, that seemed to be on the ceiling?

Not sure if i ever ate in a Kmart Diner,i have a vague recollection of seeing them. What i do remember is the small cubicle Sub Shop that Kmart used to have that was kinda in the front center of the store. They sold the BEST Submarine sandwiches EVER.I have NEVER to this day ever had a better Submarine sandwich than the ones they sold in the seventies at Kmart!!!Leave a comment:

I totally remember the K-Mart diner. They actually had good food back then. It wasn't like a little food court hot dog stand either. It was a cafeteria type set up (at least the one I knew) where you took your tray down the line and picked out what you wanted.Another that came to mind...Sizzler. It was so popular at one point it had it's own catch phrase whenever something good happened (We goin' Sizzler!) We also had a place around here in the early 80's called Buckston's. I'm not sure if they were all over but I have fond memories of that place. Also did anyone have a K-mart with a restaurant in the back? Like it was actually just part of K-mart just like Target has their little food station or Walmart has Subways or Mcdonalds in them only this place was basically the K-Mart Diner. We used to go for breakfast and around the holidays Santa would show up.
As far as Sizzler, we still have them in WA, but they have really gone to hell. They used to be pretty good but I have had better steaks at Dennys compared to what they have now.Leave a comment:

DQ rules for ice cream. They are expensive, but have you ever bought ice cream from Hardees,Mc Donalds etc.they are a total ripoff for that and their is no comparison.Aside from the "Dollar burgers menu" all Fast Foods places are expensive.I eat at Hardees sometimes and buying one of their Specialty burgers, onion rings and a drink is close to 9.00.BTW the "Six Dollar Burger" from Hardees hasn't been 6.00 for quite awhile.Poor choice for a name,
