Pizza Haven...more of a mall food court place but good pizza. And it was in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

There used to be a Sambo's down on First Ave in Seattle blocks away from the old Kingdome. We'd get dropped off there as kids, grab some food, and walk to Mariners games in the late 70s early 80s.

Here in KY, I remember a burger place called Burger Queen... had a Ronald McDonald-type character known as Queenie Bee. a lady dressed up like a bee. It was later replaced by Druthers.

They forgot to mention that Chi-Chi's still sells meat that you can use in tacos. They're usually in with the stuff to make your own BBQ sandwiches.

I remember that place when I lived in NYC.

And I remember Sambo's from when I lived in So. Cal. w/ my dad. Times were lean then, really lean, and when there was a little extra money, we'd go to Sambo's. There were 5 of us kids, (me, my half brother and sister, and Dad's girlfriend's daughters), and all of us had to order from the kids menu. Keep in mind that me, and the 2 daughters were teenagers at that time. But the food was cheap and it was good.

I believe there's only one lone Sambo's remaining in the entire country.

I thought this was a pretty cool list of restaurants that are no more. Brought back some memories. I also thought of Roy and Kenny Rogers (no relation) but those were more fast food than sit down. Godfathers Pizza used to be big too and the line was always out the door. Now it's an Outback. Can anyone think of any more? I have memories of all but two on the list.

Howard Johnsons was THE place my family would stop every time we came back from the shore. I always got their fried clam strips.

Steak & Ale, my parents always thought this place was fancy. It always reminded me of a medieval castle inside. My father called it Steak and Al. Every. Single. Time. and he wasn't being funny, he actually thought that was the name of the place. I think Paul Simon may have influenced him on that.

As a kid, Chi-Chi's sunken floor and earth-toned colors reminded me of the Star Wars Cantina. There used to be a car show in the parking lot during the summer with a Wolfman Jack impersonator running it. I heard once that the restaurant got it's name from the founders wife, who was said to have large, um, chi-chis.

I went to the Ground Round once as a kid. It was after pumpkin picking in the fall. I was 8, my sister was 3. While we were waiting to be seated, my sister barfed all over the place. My mother was mortified, my father and I laughed. We left and never went back.

Sambo's....?

I spent a good deal of the mid to late 90's in a Bennigan's during the Fall. Before flat-screen TV's became a household standard, it was the place to go to watch play-off baseball. They had this huge TV screen just for the games and I saw the Yankees win the World Series inside one of these four different times.
