I love hunting things down. And then the last second bid on the item. Sends my heart racing.
And then a glass of brandy and a smoke afterwards....
No wait, that's another activity I enjoy....

You can have the hunt. I hate it. The thrill of the score is where it is at for me. I want what I want when I want it. I am a recovering addict after all.

Seems like whenever I'm looking for something specific, I usually find something slightly more obscure, but equally as cool if not more. There's an antique mall in downtown Port Orchard, WA. that I've periodically gone into. Managed to score a few cheap figures and toys. Haven't been in there for awhile, though.

The hunt definitely for me. Now that I do it pretty much 6-7 days a week, I thought it would lose its appeal. Hasn't lost anything. There's something about going out in search of something, that you aren't even aware you're looking for, and finding it and knowing it is going to net you whatever amount and then moving on to find that next white whale or golden idol that results in the next pay off.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

The score. It's the hunt that can drive you insane.

They go hand in hand for me... To spot that rarity or Grail... Negotiate the deal... Waiting for it to arrive so you can unwrap it like it was Christmas morning wat back when... Then display it for you or whoever to see... That's my rush!!!

Interesting that a lot of you seem to be specifically talking about online deals. When I first saw this question, I never even considered ebay as a "hunt" and I certainly don't get the same kind of a thrill associated with outspending someone else as I do when I go to a Fleas Market.. I also don't collect anything new so I don't get a rush from finding something someone has in stock either. The last time I did that was in 2001 with the new (non-classic) MOTU line. Now a few times I have come across something on ebay so mind-numbingly rare that I almost had a coronary but those finds are always accompanied with BIN's and so infrequent I can probably count them on one hand. Finding something in someone's pile o' junk for a fraction of what I would have paid for it online, that's a rush. I found an AstroNautalist for fifty cents and a Seaview Submarine for $15 this past year. That's like $15.50 for $600 worth of toys. Two years ago I found a complete Mego Thor, almost complete Conan, a Captain America, and Fist Fighter Joker for $20 in a box. Those were some really amazing finds that aside from the one of a kind Robo-Force figure I bought on ebay for $25, have never replicated online. I will also say that the rush of finding something your looking for or have always wanted but couldn't afford and keep for yourself, like the toys I just mentioned, is a much better high than finding something you know you're gonna sell off.

Quite agree with above statement. It's hard to enjoy the "rush" of a hunt or a score online. Except relief and then joy when item arrives safely and as described. Then a little rush is justified...

I'm a pretty even split- I love the hunt, can't stop the flea markets, garage sales, thrift stores, auctions, anything- even though it's mostly garbage, every once in a while that special item shows up and makes it all more thrilling- I think both are equally important, if you never found anything, the hunt would be less lucrative, but if you found stuff ALL the time, the score would be less thrilling. Special combination of both makes it just right =)

Up until about a year ago, I would have totally agreed with you, but I've found a number of deals on ebay through hidden auctions that weren't quite me just outbidding someone. For example, I found a lot of dead mint Micronauts, 5 time travelers and a space glider in a hidden, badly misspelled auction for under $8 delivered. I also found a similar one that had several super powers, in a lot of about 15 figures, including a Mister Miracle and a Captain Marvel for under $10 delivered. Granted I've done far better on foot than on-line but the hunt through a keyboard can be just as good sometimes.

VERY TRUE... but some people just don't have the time to scour the flea markets and thrift stores... Speaking solely for myself here... Not making excuses but working a MINIMUM of 8 hour days 5 days a week and being a homeowner(which CONSUMES the weekends)... I would never be able to hit the thrift stores and flea markets consistently to be able to make those kind of finds. Even scouring e bay and the other auction and for sale sights you still have to be lucky enough to find the item you are looking for before someone else and make the deal.
