What's more important/fun for you...the thrill of the hunt or the score?

Back in my 20's I used to really enjoy driving all over, hitting the various dept. and toy stores, garage sales, flea markets and antique stores, but honestly, very seldom did I ever find anything.
I find as I've gotten older, and especially since Ebay came along, the thrill of the hunt is gone for me.
I value time now more than money, and just can't bring myself to spending the time and energy it takes hitting all those places for very little payoff.

It's just too easy to go on Ebay, find exactly what I want, in the condition I want, click a few times, and go back to whatever I'm in the middle of, whether it's work, painting, or whatever. I don't even go to shows like I used to. The driving time, cost of gas and admission...just doesn't seem worth it anymore.

Anybody else feel this way, or am I just getting old? I'd rather spend my time enjoying my collection...not looking for it.

The thrill of the sale after the score.....

I love going to the Flea Markets on the weekend. The possibilities of what you may find are always the most exciting aspect of it for me.

I still enjoy the thrill of the hunt...the pay off is nice but finding it gives you that rush you can't explain

Definitely the score. I love to enjoy the things in my collection, and show off my toyroom. Even my older brother, 12 years my senior, who could care less about toys, loves showing off my toyroom. And of course I love sharing my toys to kids who weren't around when I was a kid to know how cool these things actually were/are. My favorite part about toy shows, however, is not just knowing I'm gonna come home w/ some cool stuff, but seeing all those classics in one place at the same time. It's like a trip through the way back machine. And being able to pick up and handles those goodies, even if I can't buy them, is really cool for me.

There were pics up that Scott (Adams) took, but I think those are gone from the old threads in the Toy Room Central. If you click on the number 65 on the info section of my posts (upper righthand corner), I believe most of those pics are still there. (Only now there are more things added since then, including 11 modern day 18 inch dolls!)

I would have to say the score now days, I still go to alot of antique stores and malls, but yard sales, flea markets and estate sales don't have the pay off anymore to make the time spent worth it.
There are a few antique auctions here I used to go to regularly but with all the shows like American pickers, auction kings, pawn stars, toy hunter etc more people are showing up thinking they can make a quick fortune and driving the bids to high I stopped going to those aswell.

Only 3 of them are. The rest are Springfield Collection. And a custom made boy from an Our Generation doll.

They both can be quite enjoyable. But anticipation is probably the best.

I enjoy the hunt. Scoring a Mego (Any Mego) is great, but rare. In the Hunt I sometimes find things that I find are unique to others and learn from the experience. Looking through thrift store also is like a local history tour in itself. By find more and more of a vintage toyline's @ thrifts. You come to understand what was popular back then and what maybe wasn't. Sometimes the playwear tells alot also.

My OCD makes the hunt painfull at times. Trying to figure out where to look first, or thinking you missed something and having to go back again isn't to fun. So for me its just the score these days, give it to me now!!!!

Excellent question. For me it weighs on the length of the hunt and the age of the item I'm looking for. If it's a brand new item that is short packed in stores, I have no love for those hunts and don't care for being ripped off on Ebay by the scavengers. If it's an item from the 60's or 70's and it's one of my grails, then the hunt is always fun. Where I lose the "fun" is if the prices are consistently too high when I do find these items. Actually I've reached a level now where my holiest of grails have been reached. But I still have second tier grails that keep me going. But the price has to be right for me to snatch them when I see them.

For me, the Score is best. The Hunt can be a real pain in the butt.
