I'm hating the human race anymore...

So, I finally get my wife out of the house today since it's the first day off I've had in over two weeks and we ended up at the mall to go to Bath and Body. We stopped at Buffalo Wild Wings for a bite to eat. We were seated in a booth next to a table that had a man who obviously had no business being alone. He was badly deformed(can't think of a more gentle word), in a wheelchair and was mentally challenged as well. He waved at us when we sat down and smiled real big and said hi. We apparently had some form of conversation during our meal, but I couldn't understand most words he spoke, but he was smiling the whole time. I don't know why he was there alone in a mall.

When the server came with his bill, he fumbled with his wallet and pulled out some money, not knowing how much it was. "I've got this one, it has a five on it. And this one has the number one." The server told him several times it wasn't enough money and asked him to search his pockets for more. He wasn't fully understanding. Then she asked him three times if he had a credit or debit card. He wasn't comprehending and handed her his money. Her voice got louder as she explained to him it wasn't enough. She said she was done talking to him and she was going to get the manager.

I was pretty heated at this point and so was my wife. The manager on duty, some late teen punk comes storming out of the kitchen and I stopped him before he got to the table. I stood up and told him to settle the F down and I'd pay for his meal and to go back doing whatever he was doing. I told he and the server you don't talk like that to someone who has the challenges he does. Are you effin kidding me? I also told them I was filing a complaint with the ADA on that guy's behalf, which I've already done.

We helped wheel him out and stayed with him till his ride came to pick him up five minutes later. I don't think he understood what happened, but I finallly figured out his name was Darryl. This under twenty generation better figure out how to talk to talk to people and how to deal with adversity cause if they run into a problem later in life that they don't have an "ap" for, they're done.

It was nothing to help this guy out, just freakin nine dollars, so no big deal at all. I'm just steamed that I had to witness such an attrocity. I'm ****ed at BWW and whoever dropped him off and left him alone. His diminished mental capacity could have endangered him at some point.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

A lot of the younger generation are jackwagons, I've had to deal with them at work and put up with the nonsense. To treat any customer like that is nuts, especially a guy with his difficulties.

I'm proud of the way you handled the situation. As bad as it is to see such misguided youth, it's reassuring to see someone with the balls to step in and help rather than complain and do nothing.

        Kudos to you.

I didn't do anything any of us here wouldn't have done, nothing heroic or anything like that. I can literally see each and every member here feeling the same way and doing what I did, it's just part of maturity and our Mego generation. This was a post about how freakin stupid and insensitive this new generation is. I was literally embarrassed by the human race today.

Both a sad thing, and a wonderful thing happened at that BWW's! I'm bowing in your general direction!

I was going to type 'unbelievable' but the more I thought about it, the more it seemed pretty believable. I find it awful that people don't have any consideration for mentally challenged, it's just not right. Good thing you were there to intervene.

I know what your saying, but I blame the corporations that would rather pay some kid $9.50/hour to manage than someone with experience, has a stake in the future of the business, and is liable to stay around a while. There's nothing to lose when you can match your pay in six months at Taco Bell and you plan on leaving the company, anyway. This guy was just outside the manager's monkeysphere and was therefore just another headache.

On the other hand, no one should be treating another person like that. If they had an issue with his insufficient funds, they should have had a word with his caretaker when they came to pick him up and let his or her boss know this resident was just being dropped off and neglected. Someone at the group home (or whatever) is getting paid by the state or someone for not doing their job properly. I am glad you were there, though. That was good of you guys to look after him like that.

Good for you! Although not sure if I would blame it on the human race but rather the culture and rearing to which these young folk have been exposed.
Recently returned from Barcelona and have to say the culture is far more cohesive, inviting and caring. We had some young folk help us out they are by far more mature than many of the those I've seen here and show respect to their elders.

Something is definitely wrong with the way the next generation is being instilled with the superficial self-serving greedy values. It's folks like you that need to be around and act the way that you did to show compassion to another human being. Altruistic. No need to hate the human race since you exemplified what is the human race. Well done, sir.

                        Jason,
And this is exactly why other countries look down on us. Real eye opener recently looking from the outside in and despite what you see or hear from the inside out, Americans are being brain washed. Hence so many expats are moving abroad.
But you are correct, no money, no service, no care, no compassion.

Kids are changing. I can see a big difference in the kids I teach now and the kids I was teaching about eight to ten years ago. The attention spans are shorter the general knowledge level is lower. It's disheartening sometimes to see the lack of respect, not just to adults but among themselves. I expect young people to have a certain amount of disdain for their teachers but they don't even dig each other, pretty cruel really. I've still got great students who are good and kind but their numbers are dropping year by year. They don't even notice my mego Batman behind my desk anymore. I know it's not what important to them at their age but dang, they can't relate to anyone not on Facebook anymore much less have pity on a poor soul in Buffalo Wild Wings!
